Speaking as a newcomer -- I've been here almost 3 years -- I've never felt anything but welcome in Washington. Although I do hear a lot of people saying they wish outsiders would go back home, but that's always been when someone comes here and wants to change it to be like where they came from. If this place became like Texas, I'd have to move again.

Exactly! I take sick days when I need time off work, be it from mental weariness, illness (don't even get me started on people going to work with the flu and spreading it to everyone), irritation or whatever reason. I refuse to feel guilty for not living up to everyone's PC sick day standards. They are given to me and I use them how I wish.

I guess I'm in the minority here, but sick days are there to be used. The reason for being "sick" is up to me.

It would be much more accurate if the Republican screamed at the homeless person to get a job, quit being lazy and mooching off society, then walked away.

Although I'm fairly left-leaning on some issues, I usually agree with true conservatives on many issues as well. But as trask said, there are no real conservatives on the political stage right now. Ironically, when it comes to fiscal issues, Howard Dean is historically more conservative than GWB. And it's usually the conservatives protecting the freedoms I cherish, but not this administration.

I agree if it stays in the house, except it usually doesn't stay in the house. DUI, the noise and associated traffic of heavy partiers disrupting the neghborhood. At that point it is violating others rights. I agree. With personal freedom comes personal responsibility. As soon as you get behind the wheel while impaired or take it outside the bounds of your property, it becomes a completely different issue. Other people and their rights are now involved.

Want to solve prison overcrowding? Release the ~60% of inmates incarcerated solely for drug possession, and stop arresting people for things they do in their own damn house. Then feel free to implement trask's system.
