  1. Thanks. The info slothrop sent me to tells me it's already doable, and with the water levels being lower in the fall, it will be no problem. We had planned to go into Luna Cirque this year, but after reading Josh's excellent TR, it seems prudent to leave that for the big kids for now.
  2. Thanks. The FS say you can't get out that way b/c of the flooding. More info please. FYI I have no idea why I put this RFI in the wrong section. If a mod could move it to North Cascades, I'd be happy.
  3. In the absence of the Downey Ck trail due to massive flood damage last fall, if you were going to do the Ptarmigan this fall, where would you end the traverse?
  4. I just spent a couple of days in the N. Cascades in the company of lots of critters, fresh bear sign everywhere, and didn't feel a trace of apprehension. I mean they were all around, but if you don't mess with them.....are they really gonna mess with you?
  5. Uh, yeah, the horse peeps have better lobbying than say, climbers. Go figure.
  6. Some might say Valandre makes the best sleeping bags on the planet right now. I'd agree with that. Fuggin' incredible sleeping bags.
  7. This has all been in the works for years. The comment process is long past. The trail from the end of the road to DMG is being improved for stock use.
  8. I had a Khamsin for years, loved it, and never had any of those problems with it. Really a super pack, went out for days at a time with it, climbed, hiked, you name it. Regret having sold it. I have to agree with the Doctor, it sounds like the pack is too small for you. Let me know when you are ready to sell it, I might take it off your hands.
  9. They also have the Marmot Chinook for about the same price. That's a schweet lil piece too. Don't forget to have your Outlet stuff shipped to your nearest REI so you don't hafta pay shipping.
  10. It's called "legacy." Dad went there too.
  11. And behind you. You gotta find your way back out, too.

Ok, so on your first point: So you think since the other guys are doing stuff that violates international law, then it's okay for us to do it too? No way, man. Second point: Wow, that is not going to happen for a number of reasons. Be intereresting to know how it's the media's fault, thiogh.

  14. Rumor is that lawsuits may prevent the Dingford gating from happening this fall.
  15. Similar to the above, but simpler: Let it unfold
  16. L, Glad to hear everyone made it out ok. Let me know if you need me to clean the paintings for you.
  17. Ummm, Allison, it's in the Press Release on the Omega-Pacific website. The announcement comes on the heels of a May 13, 2004 ruling by the Washington State Supreme court which declares participation in the Class I Correctional Industries program inconsistent with constitutional language. Omega Pacific has been a participating member of the combined federal/State program since 1995 and has built the majority of their goods within the Airway Heights Medium Security Correctional Center outside Spokane, Washington. The State Supreme Court had been considering this ruling, which affects seven companies and approximately 175 jobs held by inmate workers, for several months before reaching a 5-4 decision. Sorry, tomtom, you are right, and I should have looked that up rather than relying on my memory. Whether they did or did not mention it in their press release really doesn't affect anything though.
  18. Everybody doesn't employ all the inmates they can because it's not even legal most places. The thing OP fails to mention is that there was a court ruling that required them to suspend their prison labor program. I think there was something about it in the first thread about them discontinuing the program.
  19. One of the major differences is that non-inmates have the legal right to organize. Which would you prefer: Eliminating that right for non-inmates.... ....or establishing it for inmates?
  20. And it's okay that businesses who use inmate labor are at an extreme business advantage over those who use non-inmate labor?
  21. Even in times when there are not enough jobs to go around for regular law-abiding citizens?
  22. Snugtop's is pretty good!
  23. Yeah, but under a silnylon tarp.....plus the beta bug is not all that light weight.
  24. Go shapp! shappattack!!!!
  25. Oh rats, I was sort of planning on climbing that this summer. Is it really horrid?
