  1. Puget is Puget, why worry about anything else?
  2. Certain salamander species are indicators of the health of a lake's biota, which is one of the reasons they enjoy some protections.
  3. I just met Carl a few months ago. We attended a press event together. Besides being a very talented photographer and skier, he was a hell of a nice guy. He will be missed.
  4. Spork: Jack of all trades, master of none.
  5. In the middle of the show, he stopped playing and let the audience ask questions. In order to keep things interesting for the rest of the audience, he asked that participants ask only one question, and that it be of the nature that if you only had ten minutes left to live, would you still ask the question? It's a good idea, but most of the questions asked were either multi-part questions (which he humorously declined to answer) or they were kind of dumb questions, which he answered quick and moved right on to the next one. He did try to make us think though!
  6. That trail comes and goes along the high route, even when there's no snow on the ground.
  7. I heard a song off of that yesterday on KEXP. It IS damn good, I might have to pick it up.
  8. I thought Puget was going to write a Fripp Report on last night's exploits....
  9. Didn't you get the memo, Josh? Liberals are not allowed to have a sense of humor. BTW the SC already has one unattractive woman on it, so the quota is filled. I say we get another Scalia instead.
  10. A woman's right to choose is not the popular idea it once was. The country has become a lot more conservative than it was in the 1970s. The Evangelicals are a huge voting base. It would be really unfortunate, but I think we could see Roe fall or be seriously curtailed here in the next decade or two.
  11. Probaly sarcasm. If not, Josh's opinion on the relvance of her looks is his own anyway.
  12. The thing about the appointee that makes me scratch my head is "why her"? The only thing that seems remarkable about her is that she thinks GWB is "a brilliant man." I'm nervous about her because she makes absolutely no sense as a Supreme Court nominee. Maybe it is true, the rumor that GWB has started drinking again.
  13. Too much of a centrist for me, plus this country is not ready to put women into that job, unfortunately.
  14. I made Chicken Marsala last night. Took about 20 minutes to put it together. Made enough so I can have leftovers tonight. Yum.
  15. Clicking the "Active Topics" button (or surfing back to where you clicked it) should not be part of flood control. I hate that.
  16. When: 7:00 PM September 27th Where: The Mountaineers 300 Third Avenue West Seattle, WA 98119 What: Jonathan Leidich will be presenting a Slide Show about the Geographic wonders of Patagonia`s most isolated area, the Aysen Region of Southern Chile. This modern day frontier has only been inhabited since the early 1900`s as the Argentine Gauchos found themselves with less open Pampa to roam. The nomadic life and development of estancias did not mix well and the gauchos crossed the previously thought, impassable mountains into Aysen. This last frontier of Patagonia is ecologically wealthy beyond belief with hydrolgic gifts that stem from the world`s 3rd largest Ice Field, South Americas 2nd largest lake, and Chile`s most Voluminous River, the Rio Baker. After 10 years of living in Aysen and developing the region`s foremost guiding service, Jonathan is here to present the newest of his exploits, The Aysen Glacier Trail, a nine day trek into the deepest wilderness on the eastern border of the Northern Patagonian Ice Field, a journey reminiscent of the gauchos first explorations.
  17. I'll be there, acting as arm candy at the side of the Pugetizer.

  19. Smack it down, Dr. Brown. The less you think about it the better. Go get it.
  20. My cat got a bird today. Good Kitty.
  21. I saw Dave Schuldt out riding the Middle Fork on Saturday. I was on my way to Goldmyer for a soak. Sunday tried to get into Rebecca Lake for some fishing but then the expected weather came in and we turned back. Sunday was a day of relaxing Retail Therapy. I didn't climb either.
  22. I might drop in since it looks like some of the cool kids might be there.

    Saw the flood coming

The neglect and disorganization on the federal level in response to this disaster just sickens me. I'd hoped that giving money to a charity to help would make me feel better, but I just feel sick and sad and angry and ashamed to be an American.
  24. So, Mal, are you saying the Wilderness Act should be revised or reinterpreted to allow for mountain bikes on any trail in the Wilderness system currently open to stock? I mean, it's kind of a cool idea and all, but it does open a huge can of worms. Dave Schuldt is a mountain bike guy and I would think even he would frown on such a dramatic change to the Act. And while we're at it, shouldn't this thread be in Access? I'd rather see it there where it at least has a chance of not turning into a sprayfest.
  25. They still sell that one at the Visitor's Center at the Park, not sure if they have it at the ranger office thing in Marblemount or not. It's a nice map, put out by the USGS, but I think the maps were printed eons ago. They are not plasticized like newer maps and tend to fall apart at the fold lines pretty easily. If you can get over the metric-ness of it, it has enough detail on it to get you around pretty good. I just got one of the newer plasic Nat Geo NCNP maps, but have not even really looked at it yet.
