    Gringo Bingo

I was on a trip last year to Singapore and points beyond. I didn't see a lot of Westerners on the whole trip, but when I did, invariably the women had "gone native" and were wearing some ethnic Malay or Indonesian garb, especially sarongs. Now people in SE Asia wear sarongs a lot, and wow there are some beautiful ones to be had, but Singapore is a big cosmopolitan city, and a sarong is more like something you'd wear to the beach than on the streets.
  2. The uniforms used to be a really ugly shade of blue. Now they are at once stylin' and tough lookin'.
  3. Actually that's the Timex ones that have that problem. I have a Nike one and it doesn't have that problem. I had the Timex and it was a PITA--returned it after Timex told me that I had to put it in the freezer to reset it--lame. Sometimes they have the Nikes at the Nike outlet store at the North Bend outlet mall. I got mine 2 or 3 summers ago for less than $100. Some have complained of the bands breaking on the Nike watch (Norman Clyde for one) but so far, mine has held up fine. The Nike is also one of the smaller ones. I've compared mine to more expensive altis and calibrated against a GPS and it's as accurate as any other alti watch, far as I can tell. It was a little off at the end of last summer, but it's probably due for a new battery or a sensor cleaning. The sensors can get a bit rusty in alti watches, but your friendly watch repair place can fix that in a few minutes. Other nice thing about the Nike is it comes in gawd-awful bright colors. This comes in handy if you have the habit of taking yours off like I do. It's such an unnatural color that I'm inclined to notice it sitting in the dirt or on a rock.
  4. Luke, those are not your best pics, but I do like "sloper finesse". I think the best pics you've posted on cc are the ones that capture the MGL landscape, as different as is is from here. the pictures really give you the sense of how far away all of that is from what we know, if that makes any sense at all.

    Jumbo Eggs

If you can't get real eggs from a farm, try the expensive organic free range kind at least. Often a little on the small side, with deep golden yolks, and way tastier than the regular cheap kind. I went to Asia last year and couldn't believe how good the eggs were over there. I've never been a huge egg eater, but wow, the eggs there were 100 times better than almost every egg I've ever eaten here. I assume it's because they treat their chickens like chickens, letting them scrabble around in the dirt and eating bugs and worms and stuff, rather than how we treat ours here, which is kind of how we treat baby cows that are going to become veal--ugh.

Muffy is way hotter than that girl.

Paris and Nicky are chatting up a storm, right now, as we speak.

    Nectar

Is that "gay" as in a "gay bar" or "gay" as in "I'm a child and I think it's funny to insult something I don't like by calling it 'gay'". 'Cuz if it's a gay bar, I probably won't like it 'cuz I'm not gay, but if it's a place you don't like that's another story. I've driven by it a few times and it looks decent, but haven't checked it out yet. Fremont's full of kids from the 'burbs on the weekends, but on a good Thursday night or something I might check it out. So is it a gay place or a "ghey" place?
  9. I think the Nodder's in hot water.

Hey Minx, you hear something? Nope, me neither. Didn't think so.
  11. If it's sunny, it's time for some extremo XC skiing this Sunday for me.
  12. You don't need an ipod to do the podcast thing. Not that I want to listen to 'send it dude' but podcasts are pretty cool whether you had an ipod or not.
  13. No, but I bought a new vehicle this week and the first thing I did was take it over to Magnolia to get an ipod wire installed. I own the music I have, so stealing stuff and getting a lower bitrate does not apply.
  14. I got caught in one of those at Crystal a couple of seasons ago. Scared the $#!+ out of me. I could have used some help. The more you flail in a tree well, the more you sink. Dem's scary.
  15. Here is where I took my course. It was good. Part of it is in the lodge at Alpental, and part in the front- and backcountry of the ski area. Good teacher to student ratio, organized course, great instruction. Looks like they have a Level One next month.
  16. Ditto on USAA. The eligibility extends pretty far though, all the way to former dependent of a former dependent of someone who was in the military.
  17. My FC Kahuna Machine Says Yes says 2002 on it though.
  18. Right on, Matt.
  19. I'm skipping this one. See you in August.
  20. Racing sailboats is hella fun.
  21. I bought an SUV that will probably never be used to drive kids to soccer games.
  22. I'll give you an oh yeah on that. Good stuff, that FC Kahuna.
  23. Feeling comfortable on easier blue runs at Snoqualmie might not be quite enough to feel confident in the BC. You might be better off getting lessons and skiing inbounds until, say, black runs at Crystal are not too tough for you. BC skiing takes your ability down quite a ways.
  24. Damn! That's a testament to not skimping on safety gear!
  25. I thought the Brian Eno record was pretty danged good. That and Rachid Taha's Teketoi was real good listening too.
