    BAD BEER

One guy said right after another guy said I too have wondered if English is perhaps the second language here. If it is, what then is the first language?

    Tunes of the day

I have the most excellent music subscription service (emusic) and I found the most excellent record there while just randomly browsing around. It's Lemon Jelly's Lost Horizons. Not new, from 2002, wholly enjoyable electronica with a smattering of whimsy. Better than it sounds. Anyone looking for a music subscription service who likes alternative better than mainstream might check out emusic. Great selection, great price. I've been with them for a year or so, no complaints. Plus you get a bunch of free songs when you sign up. It comes out to about a third of the cost of itunes, depending on which membership you get.

  11. Wow, some of you were really nerdy once upon a time!!
  12. Are you sure about that? When I took my 2 day Level One, they told us that beacon work is not even a required part of the Level One curriculum. We spent maybe 2 hours tops on it, 18 or so on avoidance, recognizing terrain, pits, block tests, etc.

  14. Nick is giving you some great advice here. Stay away from fleece, go with a puffy coat for warmth and less weight. If you can only afford one puffy, get a synthetic one, I'd say. Headwear and handwear help to keep you warm for not a lot of money and not a lot of weight. You also might look at getting something like the Marmot Dri Clime jacket. Lots of companies make similar things, basically a layer of microfleece and a layer of ripstop. Very versatile, not expensive or heavy. Good places to get great deals: The Outdoor Research store on 1st Ave S. in Seattle. Last time I was in there, I got a really nice pair of ski gloves for $16. They also have their Celestial 2.5 layer jacket there for $60 when they have big sales, that jacket retails at $220. I have one and it's a really great piece. Another place to look is in the clearance area at Montbell's website. Also reioutlet.com. also the basement at the REI store, where they have stuff that's been returned sometimes for uhhltra cheap. The crowd here is pretty knowledgeable, don't be afraid to bring more things here for people to comment on. PS. I like the idea of a 2.5 layer jacket, but that REI one is not one of the better ones.
  15. I picked up a pack of this stuff at the Ballard Market today. At a buck twenty-nine, it had better be damn good.

  21. If you are not yet intermediate, you'd be very wise to work on your skiing ability before going into the BC. That is, if you plan on skiing or boarding in the BC.
  22. I might just do some experimenting in that general direction if the Maggi's a no-go. I bet a dabba' curry paste would have a similar effect on the ramen. Do you like that cock soup, or just the idea of a soup made of cock?
  23. Here's another one: Maggi Curry Ramen. I can't find it locally anywhere yet. Am seeking source or substitute. Wow, I had no idea curry ramen would be soooo gooooddd.
  24. My Nike is not a Timex, it's a Citizen. It has that "zero drift" deal, which means you calibrate every day, just like with a regular alti.
