Try the Mercer loop counter clockwise, the turns are tighter and a lot more fun. The South Washington Lake loop is nice. The West Seattle ride out along the beach is flat and fast. Golden Garden to Shoreline riding through the neighborhoods is a lot of fun. Tough brutal climbing, fast windy street, just got to be careful for kids and cars, cause it goes through residential neighborhoods. The loop around Magnolia going counter clockwise is real fun too. Good climbing up to Discovery and real fast long downhill to canter Magnolia. Only the loop is too short. I usually do laps on it.

Great stuff everybody, lots to think about. Snowbyrd, what is up with the Costco Card question? Do they have cheap prices on laptops? cj001f, Wifi, Wayport, TMobile, are wireless networks like like wireless phone, where you have to have a particular card to work with a particular network or do all wireless card work for all wireless networks? CascadeClimber, what did you mean by OSX being visually appealing, looks good but not worth it? Is that what you meant? Just to clarify why I want to get a laptop is because I will be travelling abroad. I am not sure what I will do for work, but some thought are is setting up a stock digital photo site, or try to sell to stock agencies. Another thought is to try and set up some sort of exporting business on the web. This will take place in Africa and I will be doing a fair amount of traveling around so the unit does need to be durable. I know will want a quality screen. Sounds like I will want to invest in extra batteries. So any more suggestion, ideas, opinions, whatever, are welcome. As for the PC vs Mac I could really careless why you think one is better than the other, I am familiar with both and operate either just fine, I just want to know what sets it aside from other unit Mac or PC.

So let me ask this, how do you tell the difference between different HD and what does the rpm's have to do with a HD, more RPM the faster data is accessed? What do you mean when you say the HD is the limiting factor in notebooks? How do you tell the differences between screen? I have notice that is one of the things that I really don't like about getting a laptop is the screens. I know there is all this hype about Pentium processors and Josh you mentioned Petium M. So I imagine they make all different types, are they for different applications or just different levels of quality? So what are AMD and P4 are these processors, who makes them and what sets them apart? Thanks so far everybody. Snowbyrd thanks for that link.

Ok I am in the market for a laptop and not really sure what to look for. I know how to use a computer and I navigate around pretty good, but do I know the ins and outs of memory and RAM and all the other crap, NO. So I need help. If you folks out there that know this this well can spell out some of the stuff that they use to market computers that would be great. Also these are the main reason why I want it. 1. I want it for is backing up my music, I am tired of having to replace discs that get scratched. Eventually will probably get an MP3 player. 2. I will want to store digital images on it. 3. I will probably want to do photo editing on it, (later on and maybe even setting up slide show and short movies). 4. One idea I have had is maybe starting up a website, but don't know what type of computer requirement are necessary for that. 5. It will need to be sturdy, I will be doing a lot of traveling with and not necessarily in urban environments. 6. Also I will be traveling in foriegn countries with 220v, so I imagine you can get power regulator of sorts. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Man I totally agree, this is such great humor from all sides. Haven't had a thread like for such a long while it seems. Keep up the good work 007, the "PAY TO CLIMB" anti-mantra is awesome stuff.

Alright, my foot is starting to feel better and I am dying to get out some more. Last weekend went up with chelle and we had a nice ascent of Vesper, but the slab shite was no fun for the foot. Got any on ideas for alpine in the 7, sub-7 catergory for alpine? Don't want any slab, I need edges, big edges, cause rock shoes are no good right now and I am climbing in sneaks. I was thinking along the lines of Thompson also Triumph, but wondering if that hike is too long and if there is too much slab on Triumph. Got any idea, let's here em'?

I find that the hikeable summits with registers are boring . Summits that are harder to get to seem to have more interesting material to read . As for being a important historical record, who cares, does it really matter who was the 5th or 500th or 50000th person to climb the peak?

Hey TUIB, Yeah what Greg said. I went driving up there weekend before last and there is a ton of good spots up there. That road cuts back on to 2 over in Skyhommish FR 6510 less crowded than the Index side. Drive up the Middle fork of the Snoqualmie and there is a whole bunch of spots up there but more crowded than the road up by Index. There is this little mountain pond up high above X38 that usually doesn't have anybody there, but you need 4x4 and not care about scratching your paint. All of these places are within 2 hours of the city. You should look into the Goldmyer hot springs $12 pp awesome spot. Have fun.

That looks like a cool ride.

Dood, no matter what you are going to pay to climb, so I don't know why you keep saying that. Yes is cost money to climb, sometimes just gas and food to get you to and from the crag, other times for bigger mountains in far off reaches, airfare, porters, equipment, blah, blah, blah. Also, I don't know about you, but my free time is worth quite a bit to me. So paying a little extra to have someone take care of all the logistics of doing a 8000m peak in some other country would be way worth it. Some of these trips that people have posted about on this thread seem like great deals, and possibly a lot cheaper than what you are going to be able to do on your own, especially when you start to consider all the time you are going to spend searching out the best deal and who to rely on for services. As for what happened to true expeditons, I would say they still happen, (flip open a climbing mag sometime, usually all kinds of articles people on expeditions) but most of the time it is with people who have known each other and climbed together. They are most likely people who have been to where ever they are going, know who to deal with, know the area, know what to pay, basically know what to expect. Myself personally would love to go do an 8k peak sometime, but I tell ya it won't be on a trip that is organized on a message board with people I don't know. That is just dumb. Hitting the crags or the local mountains with someone I don't know is one thing, but planning a big trip like this is silly. I would much rather plan something with one or a couple of my friends and climb alpine style or OMG, pay to climb with some organized trip, where all I have to focus on is training and catching a plane on time. Just some food for thought. Man I can believe I writing in on this troll, I guess I am just a sucker.

Hey Randygoat, it is somewhat true that there isn't much ice here. I moved here last year from Maine and there isn't as much ice as New England and it is not as consistent as New England. Have you been to the Dacks, Willowbouy, Catskills, North Conway area, Baxter State Park in Maine for destination ice places out there. For bigger stuff check out that area that houses the La Pomme d'OR awesome area and long routes, I jsut forget the name of that valley. Also there has been a lot of climber making there way up to Labrador, I here some really long lines going in up there and no crowds. For the West side go to Bannf area.

Lusine, Midwest Product, Dabrye, and Mathew Dear Decibel Festival Benefit Show (WORTHY CAUSE) Launching a world-class electronic music festival ain't cheap, but Decibel Fest organizer Sean Horton naturally thinks big, so he needs a hefty budget to lure the kind of producers and DJs that excite heads worldwide. Tonight's gig showcases artists from Ann Arbor's Ghostly International, a world-class label providing the forward-thinking music that we hope will fill Decibel's lineup in late September. (For more info about the event, see Data Breaker, page 44.) (Chop Suey, 1325 E Madison St, 324-8000, 9 pm-2 am, 21+, $10 adv. ) Data Breaker
