  1. Your percieved "worst" route is your BEST opportunity to improve skills OR appreciation of a specific weakness you blame on the aforementioned route due to whatever you feel "challenged" or "affronted" by. Every route is valid and has a right to be climbed. YOU just might not be the right climber for that route. Dont H8!, just move on and let others formulate their own opinion. The grass is always greener... - dedicated to choss everywhere
  2. AndyF! How you doing? Are you still in Tacoma? Cool, been forever but glad to see your still in the mix!
  3. I disagree, this was my second ever leading experience, really phenominal position, excellent and diverse climbing. A true Northwest "rite of passage" IMHO.
  4. Very true! I found the same thing at Devils Tower, a similar stone formation ( variant: phonolite porphyry) , cams were often skechy at best in the undulating cracks. Hexes and stoppers were some of the most bomber things around.
  5. Awesome routes that are VERY accessible for a wide range of abilities. The rock is a high quality andesite chock full of features! A definite must visit for 5.8 climbers. A great place to learn trad as well!! I love the place!
  6. WTF? lol im 5'7 168# Am I doomed to be a noob climber forever? Im pretty solid for that weight. I think its all about endurance, time on the rock, and good technique as opposed to height/weight ratios. Granted it helps to be a stick but I'm more like a stubby branch...just look at John Dunne
  7. Excellent points on all the above posts. But I am reminded of how the metality was to wear rock shoes 4 sizes to small and be in hella pain but be able to edge on an atom vs: fit larget and be able to actually climb comfortably with a slight loss of edging performance. I have learned alot from the above tips and will be continually tweaking my setup, gunning for a substantial reduction in the junk I carry, BUT as an "older" climber, I would rather be in better shape and be able to carry some extraneous "creature comfort" junk in as well to increase my psych! factor . Great thread!
  8. Rain = a good City of Heroes session

I always leash my pup on trails and get many thanks from folks for being considerate. Seems like common sense to me even if my dog is a big goofy, loveable lab. When I walk her around our neighborhood ( fringe ghetto on Tacomas "eastside") I carry a weighted fish billy and a small knife. Too many times I have had aggro pit types charge or approach us and I have had the billy ready for action. I must send off a scary vibe as thus far non have attacked. I am ready tho as I have no patience fo that kind of BS. I will attack to the death of the agressor if needed. On the flip side, there is alot of gang activity and prostitution where I walk Jumar and her jovial demeanor has kept me pretty damn safe from humans, lol its awesome to have some gnarly mean looking gang bangers break out in a smile and a wave when they see Jumar

  21. wtf?
  22. Damn correct.
  23. Two clove hitches...manually adjusted are much safer albeit a pain for free climbing, aid shouldnt be an issue. Just attach them to your harness proper. Use a biner directional on the chest harness to keep you vertically inclined...or hopefully vertically inclined...or use a Gri Gri.
  24. Definitely worth the thought, but the cable is for the chest connection only and shouldn't bear alot of weight. The modifications were done by Brian McCray and hes taken some hellacious whippers on a similar unit. I agree NOLSe, that for a new person to the solo realm, a confirmed and professional device would be a much safer route. I just have had good success with mine I thought I would share.
