I've done a traverse onto the skyline trail from the bailey range by dropping into the basins on the west of the ridge completely staying away from the elwha. From queets basin, go up the queets glacier for a while, and drop over a shoulder on the west side of mt. queets, don't need to do the summit. Then drop into the unnamed basin. We then scrambled up to climb mt. meany for a side trip and then returned to the basin. Continue contouring south, on the west side of the ridges at about 4900-5000 feet, into saghalie basin. Then ascend a gully, up to the skyline trail, just north of lake beauty a ways.

Sounds like you have mild carpal tunnel. Try using wrist braces at night to keep your hands from pinching the nerves. The body swells a bit at night, that is why you experience it at that time. During the day, the swelling goes down, and you are less likely to compromise the nerves.

I was planning on going to the fall ropeup,,,,now I guess I'll just go to Deja Vu in Spokane instead ......

Never wear a tight boot in snow. Frostbite. I know first hand. So I always wear a size that gives me some extra room. Not a real problem with double plastic boots since you can cinch up the inner boot to suit your need.

I don't know anything about mounting lions , but here in donnybakerland we have a healthy cougar population. Much fear seems to follow these critters, unless you live among them as I do. While cross country skiing in the mountains, I routinely see their tracks on the trails. Often there are fresh tracks on my ski tracks, they have been following me, but only out of curiosity. I have been fortunate to see four cougars face to face. No problems. Cougar problems are very limited, and localized where their habitat has been compromised. Like seattle!

There is a big USFS campground at the base of the Mendenhall glacier. Turn left off the Mendenhall highway before you get to the visitor center. The campground is on the west and north side of the lake. Beautiful place, lots of campsites, restrooms, etc. I have camped there off season, when it is closed. There is a nice covered shelter there in case the Juneau weather shows itself. Take the bus up there if you want, it goes almost to the campground, and all over downtown too. Catch it at the Nugget mall next to the airport. There is also a campground north of the ferry terminal about a mile. Kind of dark and damp. Like Alaska. Oh, and if you have time, look for my lost wallet, and if you lose yours, I can direct you to the best dumpsters.

Make a court date, then call in sick. Reschedule for a later date. After the first cancellation it is unlikely that the cop will also reschedule for such a minor infraction. It worked for me once.
