  1. Thanks! Never, ever go into the mountains without your cape.
  2. Well put. The incessant ad nauseum speculation upon speculation is so absurd that many posters are asking questions that have already been answered by rescuers that post here, or they counter the facts from a rescuer with their own crazy speculation. Give it a rest. Express you sympathy to the family, post facts as they are appropriate, but please take your endless speculation to fox news or some other soap opera.
  3. he didn't think much of "tree climbers". wonder how he feels about rock climbers? It's a good thing he doesn't climb, or we'd be hearing about barbequed snafflehounds.
  4. I believe you have just posted the cc.com 10 essentials. Note, it does not contain an MLU.
  5. That's it, shove your arm down it's throat, then pull out the stump! Sounds like advice from Shimi...
  6. Is your ranch also so large that it contains a Scout camp?
  7. I can still hear you talking
  8. I am a talking mouse.
  9. http://www.kgw.com/livecams/popup_timberline.html Here's a pretty good live feed picture of Mt Hood from Timberline lodge showing weather and visability conditions.
  10. Cooper spur is the broad snow humped ridge on the left of mtnhighs photo.
  11. jon, You've got three very experienced climbers on the mountain, with the supreme motivation of trying to save their own lives, but they have not been able to come off the mountain in five or so days. What makes you think you can waltze up to the summit?
  12. My experience with NPS mountain rescue has been the same. You can teach folks to set up rope systems, do first aid, and lots of other rescue techniques. But as far as climbing skills, those are mostly brought to rescue teams when outside climbers decide to get into rescue activities. All mountain rescue outfits would be glad to have talented mountain climbers join their ranks. Hopefully some of you will be able to get involved and be available to help out in the next rescue. Good luck to those three taking shelter in snow caves right now.

I like it, but where's the cheese?
  14. Ever date a mouse?
  15. A good third party measurer can be found at mountainspeedreading.org
  16. Thanks. Nice tail!
  17. Thanks for the highly recommended post Blow, but I was looking for Mountain Pron...
  18. Thanks archy, but why would anyone want to fish for flies?
  19. Lets face it, Cascadeclimbers spray can be great, but it really lacks at times, like lately... So I have been looking at other outdoor websites, and wonder if you have any other good ones? NW Hikers.net: I go here to find very good, factual information on trail conditions, and TR's. A really professional site, but it seems like I am lurking at an inbred family reunion... Backpacker.com: This website seems to have nothing to do at all about backpacking, and seems to have been taken over by George Ws followers. Telemark tips.com: An interesting site, and you can always go to the long running (years actually) thread "Another single and frustrated thread".

    DON'T YOU PEOPLE HAVE HOMES?!
  22. If you are a cheap sit, Key makes imitation carhartts for a much cheaper price.
  23. Good point. An occasional outburst is just being human, as evidenced here on this site. Most of the folks here are not as crazy as they come across, are they? (Arc, we're not talking about you as far as you know).
  24. What I like is the respect we get from others, like our neighbors over at NW Hikers. "Look at what goes on here even when well moderated, multiply it times the cesspool over at CC.com." http://www.nwhikers.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=17533
