So are you looking forward to caring for your parents? Are you looking forward to someday moving in with YOUR children, assuming you have any? It may be true that this is common in other countries, but given a choice, it is not what most people would want.

None of us has the foggiest notion of what this country was like before Social Security existed. But my father and my grandfather did and they told me about it. It was ugly. Old people out on farms starving to death when they could no longer work. Parents moving in with their children like beggars. Social security has allowed people to maintain their dignity in their old age. It was never intended as a "retirement account". It was meant to be a safety net.

It has nothing to do with what you look like. Service writers know from experience that the vast majority of women don't question the work that is done. Next time, do this: Say, "I want you to do this job and nothing else. If you see something that really needs to be done, record it and I'll make an appointment to have it done next week. I want any and all parts you replace so I can examine them." Pick up your car and ask someone who knows cars to look at the system they say needs work. A lot of the time, it will not or the job can safely be deferred quite some time.

I think that most short-sighted attempts to make political hay by playing to public sentiment of the moment end up as a wash over time.

Your micro economic analysis is accurate, but your macro economic analysis is flawed. What do we mean by "destroy"? Use whatever term you like, but Walmart has altered the nature of the local economy and manufacturing in the US. It has changed the types of jobs that Americans hold. It has changed the distribution of wealth between individuals. There are winners and there most decidedly are losers.

That is a very quaint notion you have of the independent "family farmers". Guess what, today most acreage is in the hands of large corporations. The largest subsidies, even on a per acre basis, go consistently to the largest corporations.

People need to understand these are PARTY rules that apply only to party leadership. The Republicans can make whatever rules they like, but it is still hypocracy, because the original reason for the rules was to take a dig at the democrats who at the time were having troubles.

I'll answer the question. The government hands out large sums of taxpayer money to big corporations such as Agri-business and defense contractors. That is "capitalism". If it gives out money to individuals, particularly the poor, that is "socialism"

I think it is a dumb rule. Anybody can be indicted for any reason. They are innocent until proven guilty. What I disagree with is putting rules on and taking them off again to suit a particular situation.

Yes, he was disbarred for lying about a blow job. Your man Nixon was also disbarred for covering up a break in at the Watergate Hotel.

These statements that are made over and over again are seldom supported by facts: That government agencies are not subject to auditing. That federal employees are immune from firing for poor performance. That government workers are less efficient than private sector workers.

It seems to be that Bush's strategy for managing the Strategic Reserve has been to buy high, sell low.

Supposedly, the summit register on Goode Peak once had an inscription saying, "Beam me down Scotty! How do I get off this thing?"

Don't store them where she might put a pin hole through the package.

When carving with a knife, be sure to cut away from your body and not towards it. When sawing a board remember on which side of the line to cut. Measure twice, cut once.

Did you tell that story already? Do bats live under boulders?

FOTH has or had an anchor that used two axes. To make this anchor, dig a Tee trench as though you were making a standard dead man. Girth hitch a sling on to the first axe and plunge it into the bottom of the trench. Then take the second axe and lay it so that the shaft lies horizontal in the trench with the first axe behind it, and the pick turned towards the load over the second axe and the sling under it. Now bury everything with snow and tamp it down well.

What about Brazil? Are we going to attack them too? When is this going to stop?

You got it. The far right wing of the Republican Party can't stand him. I think the best label for Arnold is "populist", a la Teddy Roosevelt, or Truman.

What is so refreshing about CPB is that, unlike most politicians, he says what is on his mind, knowing full well he'll piss off a large number of people. He doesn't give a shit. Politicians feel they can't afford to lose votes so they mince their words until you can't tell what they are for or against.

There seems to be a lot of confusion about what is and isn't "terrorism". The motiviation or justification is not what is important. Whether you kill unarmed civilians or soldiers is not definitive either. It is that you intend to kill unarmed civilians or non-combatants.

You guys should both go to Pub Club and buy each other a beer.

Some of us have to work. Also, colds and flu bugs start going around in November, so chances are a person is sick on that rare sunny day.
