  1. I would love to hear someone define the TECHNICAL differences between analogue and digital modes as it applies to a tranciever. And no marketing BS either.

  4. quote: Originally posted by Skisports: Very ture... So what is Hard man... Was Becky a hard man well he couldn't climb anything over 5.9 but in my book he is one of the greatest hardmen. Ron Jeremy?
  5. quote: Originally posted by genepires: I have been using one for the last 4 years and have been very happy with it. They are a bit heavy but that may just be because I have a different binding than what you are thinking of. (mine has a large metal plate that the regular binding fits on top of) Some things that suck: -following a ski track is not easy as your track is way larger than the skiers. Like breaking trail all the time, unless there is a fellow splitter in your group. -traversing tracks is hard -time it takes to convert between uphill and downhill modes. Makes rolling ridges and the like very annoying. Flats between steeps too. things that rock: -going downhill!!!!!!!!!!(makes it all worhtwhile) All in all, times are very fun. But you have to think a little more about where you can go, topography-wise. Need to avoid rolling terrain, avoid traverses and find consistent slopes to ride down. As far as comparing it to burtons board, I would rather use the voile as I think it is more field repairable. Lots of small parts for the burton. Send me a message if you are interested in doing some back country this season. That said, Is it better than just plain skiing? I don't want to throw away my 9 years of snowboarding just for easier backcountry access, and I guess it beats carryin' a board.
  6. Does anyone remember abercrombie from many years ago? I have really vaque memories of it being an "expedition" style outdoor store. That sort of english Khaki imperialist/naturalist look. But I could be wrong. I like the good ol days of REI. Recently I went on a tirade about them 'not carrying pickets' I was told they were out of season. This was in april.
  7. quote: Originally posted by rodeo: Hey all, I'm thinking of ditching the yardbird scene for my Turkey Day break and making a trip. I get Thurs and Fri off so I can leave Wed evening. I'd like for it to be somewhere within about 6 to 8 hrs drive time of K'Land though. So I'm looking for something to do and someone (or someones) to do it with. Anyone else in a similar situation? I'll be in J'tree. Come on down if you like. I'll give ya a belay. (--Climb on,,, "Action suit sold separately"
  8. quote: Originally posted by specialed: I wanna do that Central Coulior on Mt. Joffre up there in the british columbia and that other route on Joffre that's 10d. Not hardman climbs but they look fun as shit. Oh yeah, I went to J-Tree this last weekend, it was 70degrees and sunny. And you guys in Seattle got rained on. Ha. Off Topic; I'll be there next week ohhhh yeah. On Topic: These are ones I want to do sometime before I'm thirty, I'm sure there's a bunch more that aren't as well known, but I'm not old skool enough and can't remember route names for shit. Graybeard NF Coolnial, Watusi Rodeo or any other NF route Snoqualmie, NY Gully Big 4, Spindrift Couloir I wonder what a winter ascent of Dorado needle would be like? I would like to do some winter exploring back in the eldorado area when I can ski/board car to car.
  9. I'm thinking about buying a Voile split 173, to go along with my 'normal' snowboard. Anyone have any feedback as to the quality and performance? I plan on getting the plate bindings so my plastics will work.

"Just updating my profile to change my avatar image (Pretty nice, huh? huh?), and I noticed a place to check whether you want to "Hide Avatars of Other Users? " Looks like the default is checked no. What does this do if you check yes? "

  12. Try thr RE-Store in Ballard, there is also one in bellingham. Lot's of cabinets, periodically you can get some really cool cabinets from old stores and schools. Really good doors too.

  14. quote: Originally posted by chucK: you guys are really dampening my enthusiasm C'mon ChucK, I didn't know you were so soft skinned. A littler friendly banter is fun. Though i empthize with your disdain regarding the prospect of having your teeth removed my someones fist.
  15. quote: Originally posted by freeclimb9: go to Vesuvio's for a drink. It's right next to City Lights Books. vesuvios was a coffee shop when the beats hung out there, but it's got a cool atmosphere. The great thing is that Anchor Steam is always on tap and cheap in SF
  16. quote: Originally posted by Greg W: quote:Originally posted by COL. Von Spanker: He is referring to avy danger. If by suffer tolerance you mean suffocating to death under a few tons of snow then never mind. I got that much Spanker. But part of the suffering is packing all your crap, doing the approach and then turning around when the conditions suck. That sounds like a pretty good time if ya ask me. It's funny how once one starts alpine climbing a beautiful day hike or overnight backpacking trip turns into a measly approach. I know I have become guilty of this at times. On Topic: The Mt Baker backcountry has some good sufferfest potential. It can be dangerous at times but you can drive to the ski area and park then head off toward table mt and surrounding areas. Bring a beacon and a partner though. When I was a kid we would go there in winter and slog around in knee deep pow and camp in snow caves, fun stuff.
  17. quote: Originally posted by Greg W: quote:Originally posted by j_b: West Cascades winter climbing on weekends is very, very difficult. Isn't that part of the lure? Sounds like Ryland is looking to up his suffer-tolerance. What better place to do that than the Cascades in winter? He is referring to avy danger. If by suffer tolerance you mean suffocating to death under a few tons of snow then never mind.
  18. It seems to me that it would hide the avatar image. Prolly makes pages load faster if yer on some slow 28.8 dial up.

  23. quote: Originally posted by Dave Schuldt: More research = another link. http://www.galbraithmt.com/index.htm I think it's lame that they charge for their site. It's cool that they refer to Bob as a "legendary trail builder". He's part of our not that old, old skool crew. It would be like weekend climbers charging. But the photo's are really good.
