  1. Did ya get out? How did it go? You got pics? I heard some of my buddies were out there - probably were tripping over each other. You meet Stan and Andrew? BTW, I'd have pics of my Sat. (including Jason and his lil boy) but Ujahan had the camera.
  2. Any idea how that happened?
  3. Not sure what you mean then. Certainly in Nazi Germany it did not mean "taking ALL the guns away". Wealthy landowners and party members still could own weapons. Now stop being so unreasonable and get in line for the showers.
  4. Yes, it is a supersecret crag located just uphill from Stevenson Rock. Thanks for outing all of our awesome secret crags oly.
  5. Fortunately, many countries, like China, have been able to increase their security and reduce this kind of thing by controlling who has weapons, what people can say, where they work, where they can go, and when they can go there. Very safe. "Fools", said I, "You do not know Silence like a cancer grows Hear my words that I might teach you Take my arms that I might reach you" But my words, like silent raindrops fell And echoed In the wells of silence" (Paul Simon)
  6. Hello darkness, my old friend I've come to talk with you again Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision that was planted in my brain Still remains Within the sound of silence
  7. Seahawks, your personal attack on Decristo not only adds nothing to the conversation, but forces it off track. China has been able to achieve the level of safety which many on this board desire. They do not want to move to China to become safe, they want that safety here and of the opinion that getting rid of public ownership of weapons will get them what they want. In my mind - with safety comes things like this. Here is a real example of how that is true. Those who have disagreement on this idea and shared facts have "Opinions " that these kinds of things wouldn't come to pass here, but they are only opinions. I'd like to see some facts from them. Here are some facts we are sharing with our brothers which bolster our viewpoint. Like your facts above. Like wfinley's facts. Facts make for a more fullfilling discussion than opinions. Personal attacks are of even less value than opinions.
  8. Interesting that I was just ruminating on this fact yesterday. A dude from around here and some buddies decided to unfurl a banner (opps, free speech not allowed, nor are guns allowed in China) at Everest Basecamp, Tibet. They got lucky and only spent 15 days without regular sleep, food or water in a Chinese jail. The banner was only requesting freedom for Tibetians. It said "One World, One Dream, Free Tibet 2008" . Sorry, no guns: no free speech. Crime to think incorrect thoughts. news link
  9. I misunderstood, my entire post up there had this one question: "Does this mean that the groundhog saw his shadow today? Err, I mean, knowing that you went to Beacon today to observe if there were birds and locate a nest, that you saw the birds nesting ?" Your reply was: It was your reply which started "Bill, no."... and then off to another subject which caused me to think you answered my question above about there being no birds. Had your reply to my question about sighting birds had been "Bill, Yes..." I would have understood it differently. Thanks for the clarification. BTW, forgot to say: thanks for both spending the time to confirm birds were present, but also giving us all a heads up the other issues as well.

    1000th post

    I never congratulated you G-spotter. So here it is: Happy.... 1,000 2,000 3,000 4,000 5,000 6,000 7,000 8,000 9,000 10000 11000 12000 13000 14000 15000 16000 17000 18000 19000 20000 21000 22000 23000 24000 25000 26000 27000 28000 29000 and 30000 posts. Whew. If you have gotten a buck a post you'd be rich Dru.
  11. As I was out today, it came to me that it seems like whats being said is that although there are no birds, the Dept of Fish and Wildlife guy is too busy to get to it to determine the acuracy of that: so deal with it and don't call the Beacon Rangers cause it's the fish and wildlife guys job and he's too busy to bother. It seems like a better standard would be to start the year by determining that there are birds at Beacon Rock, and where they are located. As opposed to closing it every year no matter what the true facts are. If there are no birds, which seems to be the case here, then it does not close.
  12. Of course. But I do wonder where the birds went.
  13. This may be why Dru (G-spotter) doesn't need it and derides it by calling it aid.
  14. Does this mean that the groundhog saw his shadow today? Err, I mean, knowing that you went to Beacon today to observe if there were birds and locate a nest, that you saw the birds nesting ?
  15. Sweet deal. I'm sitting here drinking coffee waiting for the dude right now. Just bought some watches off of steepandcheap and now I'm on CC.com. Ujahn, Oppie and I are heading out to the quiet points farther beyond of solitude to get some more remote laps. (Sorry Mike, won't see you today, maybe next time, but thank you).
  16. * Cough *cough*, Not getting out much are ya?
  17. Climbing post link Can't respond to the first part of your post. To the 2nd point, probably just need to be on the rockclimbing thread and not spray so much Ryland. Kev's still feeling his way around and getting his feet, despite the thousands of posts he's garnered. Group hug, good weather, lets get out this weekend and meet back on the rockclimbing thread!
  18. Nice find Jeff!
  19. _______________________________________________________________ Truest thing said yet on this thread.

  22. Well your absense was noted. BUT Troy, Jeff and Ujhan showed. Joseph was up doing a lap solo, he joined in and we all cranked and yanked, turned and burned and it was good. For early season weak muscles that it. John was missing, and he's always good company so I don't know where he went.
  23. Hey Ivan, you made my point for me. Franco just got laid to rest a bit ago and is barely cold. His buddy Mussolini wasn't gone much longer. Which makes my point quite capably. France, BTW, is now in it's 4th republic, it hasn't all been fun and games as it turns out. England, I can't explain away so easily, they did the Magna carta before guns and have some history of rebellion here and there, including the colonies.....give them time. BTW, I never said that IN EVERY CASE when the population is NOT armed they will be taken over by some self-promoting windbag who has military backing, But when the population is not armed is when you see that.
  24. Proving only that you are still welcome to your opinion Matt, even when you are so drastically wrong.
  25. rome - repeatedly from 100 BC to 400 AD france - 1790's usa - 1770s (the south had plenty of guns and largely fought for the brits) somalia - 1990s shit - all of africa in the 20th century? In re-reading my statement, what I meant to say was perhaps you can find an example of a widely armed population having a civilian democratic goverment being overthrown by a junta or military for me? If a country has a "king for life", I think that's a whole nother ball of wax. Your French and American example bolsters my arguement. I'll give you Rome.
