  1. To me this is interesting. I have seen a few polls (or maybe a few reports of the same poll?) suggesting that a signifigant number of Americans beleive that WMD were found in Iraq... So, if people are that uninformed about basic facts, it makes me wonder if they really are going to put as much thought/effort into making a choice of who they vote for as you guys are. It seems to me that the election will be decided by impressions and rumours rather than facts and positions. Not that our elections are that much better.
  2. Stop making work for me, or I'll get grumpy.

  8. Fairweather, can you elaborate? I don't know who you are referring to you when you say that:
  9. AFAIK, the story is this... Rock Exotica was it's own company, and made several ascenders and solo devices. Petzl bought them out at one point but did not take on the solo devices, at which point Wren Industries formed to make those.
  10. If you were to put a foot prussik where the left hand is grabbing the rope in that picture, then I think it might make things a lot easier on truly steep ground.
  11. Actually, Alpinfox, you are incorrect. The autolockers can be used as an ascender, it is even in the instructions. You just need a prussik or something to add to the mix for your second ascender. I have not seen the Matrix, but assume that since it is similar, it should work too.
  12. So, not good for winter use... Hmm. 1L Nalgene = 149 grams 1L Sigg = 185 grams
  13. enamel = glass more or less, and AKAIK, glass is one of the more inert substances around... I kind of wonder though, as most enamel is a bit brittle and would usually crack if the container was dented.
  14. I don't know how steep it is... but they can winch some pretty hairy stuff if they want to. Once they get skier compaction, and grooming, then it is not likely to be avalanche prone anymore.
  15. LAMER then don't bother clicking on the thread either... LOL Squid.

  20. I can't really imagine what you are referring to...
  21. He ended up in Twisp with *gasp* dialup access only!!! A great loss.
  22. I beleive that the newer models have longer pins than the older models (forget namea of said models at the moment) to help prevent the problem that neversummer is describing.
  23. longer also = easier to break though.
  24. The water bottles are lined with enamel, no contact between aluminum and beverage. I used one of their fuel bottles for years, and it never got crushed. It had some dents, but never leaked. Freezing might be an issue. Maybe cbs can figure out the relative pressures of water freezing vs. white gas being warmed up...
