If DFA recalls correctly, it was some random assortment of punk bands at the old Armory in Ashland, ca. 1989. The only band that wasn't totally unlistenable was the Detonators, who curried favor by throwing out a shitload of free merchandise. First mosh pit, too, complete with big fuckers with spikes on. It was OK.

DFA's been meaning to check out Calexico. Stereophile magazine gave 'em a good review, and it sounded like good muzak. Something about the word "Jicks", however, makes it hard to even consider listening to their music. Y'know? Like, what the fuck is a jick?

Wha ..? Deriding the popular music apparatus is a time-honored tradition! They will stop getting pooped on when they stop turning out poop. Honestly, is there anything on the Top 40 stations that is really worth a listen lately? Mostly not. Bunch of one-hit-wonder, focus-group-created bands shoehorned into the image du jour, whose one hits shouldn't even be b-side material. What's to like?
