  1. my daughter drew a picture on the side of our car too.
  2. I like the gaiters UNDER the pants thing. I saw a picture of Mark Twight like that.
  3. "Price is set by what the market will bear, not by the cost of goods sold." for the record (ECON 101), "what the market will bear" is dictated both by consumer demand and by production cost. Higher costs-given identical demand-will result in fewer units being sold at higher prices.
  4. where do you get the idea that folks who are posting on this web site are doing anything other than driving to trailheads and walking in to climbs? it is probably a rare, big trip to go to Alaska or somehwere like that where air support is even possible, much less necessary. a few people might use a snow machine to get to some ice climbing at the end of a snowed up road that you would otherwise drive in the summer. big deal. the reason tha alpine journals have a lot of trips with air support is because those climbs are happening in remote spots. everybody else is having fun in their backyard mountains.
  5. don't know, but i think i would wear newmatics with those to avoid suprises...i'm pretty chicken though.
  6. Went there in April 1994 to the Trench as a relatively inexperienced climber. Took vast amounts of stuff and dragged it all over the place. Worst weather I have ever experienced. Very cold. Very, very large snowfalls. We made onto the summit plateau, then bailed. Also, an amazing place in scale and beauty and solitude. We were on our own for the better part of three weeks before another party flew in. The big peaks are separated by much broader icefields than the Alaska Range. Pretty unique. PM if you'd like.
  7. personally, i would wear something warmer.
  8. Studies show that research is the leading cause of statistics.
  9. i think them ferratas look fun. sort of a cross between going climbing and going for a jog.
  10. i thought this was going to be a plea for screws for lefties.
  11. yeah, they always seem to end up with an odd angle on the hanger, and then one day you unclip the screw to place it, and the knob is gone...
  12. They all have the narrow triggers and spectra type slings, and they were orderd as ULs. The difference seems to be the model year. Do they even make the non-ULs anymore?
  13. I just bought a run from #00 to #3, and the #1 is shorter than the others. All the other are stamped '07, but the #1 is stamped '06. Did they start making them longer in '07?
  14. did you lower anyone on it? would probably chew on the rope the same as rapping i guess.
  15. Mt. Shasta. I-5 North. There is really no snow left in the Sierra at this point, but spring in the Sierra is good. You could try Dana Couloir or something like that.
  16. I assumed from the title that this was free soloing in Massachusetts.
  17. Ok, I stand corrected. I should not have been judgmental. Apologies to John.
  18. i like the mad rock fanatic. sticky, cheap.
  19. bring your odd group to the sierra, and enjoy the rock.
  20. all of your posts sound so arrogant.
  21. well, muir seems like an exception to the rule. obviously if the snow contains shit you've got a problem.
  22. i melt it only. never been sick from snowmelt.
