  1. Yeah, I got it Jon, thanks. Threads change subjects some time, too.
  2. Wow! Had to read this one twice. Seems you just made the case for Bush. Does this mean you'll be voting for GW this November?? huh!? Bush supposedly has a military background, meeting John's criteria. Both of the guys do, in this election. Bush however also meets my criteria of an irrational and poor leader. I used my example of a man who wasn't in the military (FDR) and was a far superior leader.
  3. I re-read my example. I think it's a close mirror of what we have now. FDR wasn't military and he was a great military leader. I, personally, wouldn't call bush a good leader or a rational one, but only history can decide that.
  4. I agree with your position, and I consider myself an environmental access. The road should be rebuilt. Your assertation that democracy itself is in danger is pretty over the top tho.
  5. Why so hostile? That's fine if you believe that. I'm glad there weren't more holding your belief when FDR ran for president...and god knows he was a terrible wartime leader.
  6. Seriously, why does military background have anything to do with it? Being a soldier, a pilot, or hell, even a platoon commander is a far cry from running the world.
  7. Jon, why should a president have a military background? That is BS. I'd rather have the best guy for the job, irregardless of background. Would you rather have a commander in chief with military background and unsound reasoning or a guy who wasn't in the military but is able to rely on his chiefs, take their ideas and make the important decisions with brain power and reasoning?
  8. With as heavily as we watched Iraq, they weren't going to be doing shit in there. The sad fact is we could have handcuffed iraq indefinitely (or until Sadaam died) with the weapons inspections. They weren't finding anything (gee...I wonder why ) but for a few million bucks a year or whatever it was the country was essentially under a house arrest and wasn't going to be doing anything. Now we are paying, what, $87 billion a year and 900 American lifes, to keep them under "control"? Bad deal...this strategy was fucked from the beginning.
  9. Of course a small factoid that all of you have cleverly decided to leave out is that the terror report statistics covered THE WHOLE FUCKING WORLD! BFD, Jon. Americans (or anybody) getting beheaded elsewhere is no better than it happening here. Simply keeping within US borders to remain safe isn't an option.
  10. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!
  11. I'm sure we've killed plenty of terrorist leaders. At the same time, terrorists spring up like weeds over there, so when we kill 1, 2 pop up. I would agree with Klenke, no real conclusion can be drawn yet. IMHO, however, we have lost more than we have gained in terms of international prestige, respect, etc. and it's time to boot him and get somebody else in there.
  12. AlpineTom and I did this last summer (or was it the one before? I forget) and I actually thought it was a pretty cool route. The rock quality didn't bother me too much. I felt gear was decent in places I needed it. It's a great area and neat to climb the impressive looking peak I've always seen from Alpental when skiing.
  13. Damn, my entry was last? I can't imagine nobody has been up there since, but who knows. I did that on my ski tour of the area. Your traverse sounds like a cool one, but sorry, I have no beta. What is the snow level like now?
  14. LOL. wow, that was random, but quite amusing. Any clue if it's warm enough to be using wetsuits yet, or are most climbers still sticking to drysuits?

    iraq or bust

I'm not so sure it's so black or white. I really dont think Michael Moore's agenda is solely to sell films, books, etc. The guy has a general beef with the state of this country (as we all should) and it's important that people speak up. I'm not so sure the fact that something like 3/4 of Bush's cabinent came from business (many of them oil, pharm, etc) is something that is *not* worth stirring up cotroversy over. Same thing with the programs he's axed, the shady shit he has participated in, etc...If people are dumb enough to take everything Mike says and vote solely on that, then it's their fault. But I think if his films at least open up people's eyes to expect more from or govt, then they have worked. I'm not even talking about things like gun control or other specific issues, just the general scumbaggery that is this administration and it's chronies.
  16. That sounds really fun! Where would one go about getting some information on getting (safely) started in exploring some of those?
  17. Who...me? hehe. I'm back on wednesday, but I think I might have some tentative plans. Who knows tho...It looks like it's supposed to be nice again, huh?

    Yahoo just...

No, actually, they really don't. Yahoo actually pretty much sucks. I did hear that the founder, whatever his name is, is a major anti-bush contributor, so I give him Same thing for Google.
  19. Dude, seriously. Don't throw shitting like beheading somebody around. That's just not cool.

I just had to include this quote from asshat.org. One of my favorite GW ones "There's an old saying in Tennessee -- I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee -- that says, fool me once, shame on -- shame on you. Fool me -- you can't get fooled again." -- Nashville, Tennessee, Sept. 17, 2002
  21. Wait, you serious? Where did you find the latest news on this? When I was in Montana last year we stayed with some folks who were also hosting a large group of scientists that had just come from yellowstone. They were hired by the NPS to do air quality standards. On a typical day when the bilers were out they found in almost every area of the park that the air quality would make LA look like perfectly clean air. Teddy Roosevelt would be rolling in his grave to see what the modern republican view of "conservation" is...
  22. This new behading fad over there is fucking sick. These people are subhuman. What makes it even sicker is the poor victims are dead the miute they are captured. The terrorists have to know by now that their demands will never be met. What is particularly sick is that the Saudis ran all around putting on a good show looking for this guy, but the reality is it's their fault that such a large number of these sick fucks operate in that country. We need to get our move on with getting rid of our oil dependence ASAP. We don't need "allies" like Saudi Arabia.

    What a Way to Go

Yeah, the armored tractor guy is right up there. That was unique and impressive. I dont think he actually killed anybody else, did he? As long as it's just property damage I say right on to shoving it up your enemy's ass on the way out.
  24. BWAHAHAHAHAHA You forgot "Rinse blood out of wife's whites after she looked at another man" mode.
