Frankly, every conversation with my 15 year old daughter that ends with "you know dad, I really love you" inspires me to be the person she sees. With regards to climbing, it's all the old dads from Beckey (okay, so he he never bred) on down to Bill Coe that inspire me to believe this game is a life long endeavor, and that a love of adventure and the wild is a sustaining dream. Sadly, while I believe they go to support things I believe in like education and libraries, I don't find paying property taxes nearly as inspiring.

If you're drilling in a shop or studio just rent a corded hammer drill, cheaper and easier to find. Of course, if these cobbles are embedded in some matrix somewhere you'll want a cordless hammer drill...

Right on, I think his solo route on Logan is at least as impressive as well. I know others have interpreted his enthusiasm as chestbeating, but that's not a conclusion I share and I've enjoyed his TR's for quite awhile.

Last time I contemplated doing this I just went and bought lengths of 1" tube in assorted colors and tied 'em up. Made my own consistent color coding, no time lag to speak of, dirt cheap. Maybe it's too retro for you modern folk, but it works for me.

I don't think Christians have much to complain about their treatment by unbelievers. Surveys show again and again that we'll see a black Muslim lesbian president long before an atheist will be elected to that office. I've actually found good inspiration from the Christians in how to relate to religion: respect the believer, despise the belief. Works for me. I am a little surprised by the number of avowed atheist/agnostic folk on this site though, it's a relatively rare level of disbelief. Is the correlation with climbing in general, the Northwest (notably less religious than the rest of the country) or some special cc.com mojo?

Grow up and face the facts: once you die, it's maggots and weevils forever after, amen. You're not the blessed child of some god, and the only immortality you can hope for is either a drop of your DNA in the river, or the small effect your individual self will have on those you leave behind.

Will's point about what is the character of the rest of the route is a very salient point. Have all except life threatening bolt placements been avoided on the whole package? Then why change the crux? Can a strong leader at the relevant grade put together an onsight, or is it really a well rehearsed onanistic chestbeat? Tradition says first ascent statement takes priority. Funny that "Traditionalists" deny that caveat to routes put up by people who's style they decry. There is no easy answer, but if you feel passionately and are willing to take whatever heat your actions may generate, then you should do whatever it is you're thinking about.

Actually, they are all equal: tools for dividing people into us and them, sanctioning murder of the other, oppression of assorted minority populations, and a savage collar on the lives of the believers. You're all free to believe what you want, but I believe all religions suck green donkey dicks.
