[TR] Banff natl park - N.face - Mt. Athabasca 9/16
Off_White replied to quazimoto's topic in British Columbia/Canada
Sorry to be such an American, but I'm used to Grade III or IV referring to the overall length or time involved in a route, only related to difficulty in that hard routes tend to take longer to do. Trainwreck, you seem to be using the term in some other context? -
Huh, I thought the ACLU was some tendon in your knee. Where's Mike Layton when we need him?
-
He was killed by an unarmed man?

Weather's clearing up, looks good for tomorrow night. I'll be off doing parent duty at the high school open house, but that doesn't mean ya'll shouldn't come on out and have a good time.

From your friends at REI: Don't be thinking you're going to put it in the washing machine either...

Just heard on the radio that he's fine, apparently he called 911 to report in. I confess that Mattp and Catbirdseat were the first two people to spring to mind when they mentioned a missing climber at Darrington.

A little sport climbing at Mazama on Saturday afternoon, a little chilly work on E Face Lexington Sunday, not getting started until after the sun left the face. After three pitches of numbish toes, cold fingers, and wearing jackets, our party of three bailed out to go eat Mexican food in Arlington. Nothing TR worthy to be sure, but a trip in any case. Lovely weekend out there.

Kennesaw, GA and Virgin, UT. A proposal in Aumsville, OR failed. That's from a 2001 article ( source ) so there might be a few more now too. Greenleaf, ID is a 2007 addition to the roster. Hardly a vast trend, more of a legal oddity similar to places with laws against spitting on the sidewalk, but three is a number.

That tree-fall story from the Apron is gruesome, glad you two were okay. Nice TR, looks like a great family vacation. -
Crux and Fairweather, I hope you don't mind that I saw fit to delete that exchange, it was a wee bit beyond my patience today.

Would "Cutt Butt" make you happier? Is there going to be a line on this thing this weekend? -
first ascent [TR] Mt. Triumph - FA SW Ridge - Layton/Wallace

That may be standard pilot-speak, but I hadn't heard it put quite so succinctly before. Mike & Wayne, nice job snatching an adventure from the jaws of a crummy weather forecast. -
Now that's some serious brand identification. I am what I buy. Interesting black staining on that red sandstone, how did that get there?

I heard he shaved his head for a girl.

It has that WA Pass/Wine Spires ambiance. Is it as good as the pics make it look?

Bingo! Ever hear the old Chouinard quote, "If you carry bivy gear, you will bivy"? You can extrapolate it to, "If you carry a hammer and drill..." That gear will just be a bunch of extra weight you don't really need. If you don't find an anchor on the ledge you land on, look around, go back up, be creative. A nut tool to dig munge out of cracks and expose horns for slings will be much more useful than a hammer and drill. Push comes to shove, you can always leave gear, it's just money (and a little booty for someone else). There's certainly nothing on my rack I wouldn't happily part with for the sake of getting down safely. Tell us the story of that recent climb. Sounds like you did figure something out?

Earlier version of the same concept...

I love the translation of Vacaville: Cowtown. Even better is Los Banos, CA. Have fun Muffy, take pictures and tell stories.

Pehaps you meant Phil Collins. Man, you just don't hear enough Phil Collins these days.

Son's car, not mine this time. I think I've thrown enough rods for one lifetime!

You know, I could have sworn this was the Newbies Forum. Has the unseasonably cool and damp August brought on an early onset Spray Season?

I'm looking for a good PDX area mechanic for a motor rebuild on a Toyota Tercel, anyone have a favorite to recommend?

Yes, I saw your new avatar pic in another thread and figured it was in honor of the passing of the greatest tabloid ever. Positively brilliant, and unlike the Onion, they never broke character. to the Weekly World News.
