Yosemite Valley should have no roads, grocery stores, hotels, parking lots, paved roads, vending machines, RV sewer hookups, electricity, etc in it. Are you crippled/old/lazy and can't make the hike (or possibly horse/mule pack) in? Tough shit. If it means enough to you, you will find a way to get there, and when you DO get there, the experience will mean that much more to you for the extreme effort involved. Sorry Archie.

LINK Climbers found dead in Russia Mount Elbrus As the highest mountain in Europe, Mt Elbrus attracts many climbers Rescuers have found the bodies of seven climbers from a group of 12 who went missing on Europe's highest peak, Mount Elbrus in southern Russia. The bodies were found in the snow high on a mountain slope, officials said. They were part of two groups who had set out to reach the top on Tuesday to mark the anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany, reports say. The eight Russians and four Ukrainians lost contact with the expedition organisers at the base of the mountain. Map showing the Elbrus region A member of one of the groups, said to have suffered frostbite and injuries, managed to reach rescuers. On Monday, the climbers said by telephone the weather had worsened and that they were sheltering below the mountain's western summit, Itar-Tass news agency reports. Rescuers are still searching for the other four climbers, officials said. Mt Elbrus, near Russia's border with Georgia, soars to 5,642m (18,506ft). It lies in the Russian republic of Kabardino-Balkaria. The head of the republic's emergencies department, Kantemir Davydov, said the seven climbers who died had dug snow holes but the temperature had plunged to minus 50C since Monday.

OMG! BTW, I recently received a package from my best Bud "Steve-O", and the return address was BEND, OR!?!?! The address was somewhat hard to read which I attribute to that blown finger tendon... OMG! Can you believe it!?!? p.s. Steve-O told me that the Rupal was more like 10c and he's just tryin' to sandbag Tomaz Humar into givin' it a go. "Just wait 'til that whiney bitch hits the crux! MUHAHAHA!!! He'll be callin' in another heli-rescue!" he said. I swear tuh GAWD he did. -
Wow, you guys sure are paranoid about your laptops. I spilled a full cup of tea directly on mine once and it was fine except that the "H" key was a little sticky. Baring complete submersion, I think a regular backpack should be fine. But whatever, if you wanna be a bike-wank, go for it.

There is a commercially produced poster of the annotated Olympic skyline from Seattle. I know they have it at the UW bookstore. Nice!

The time-proven way to become a bad-ass is to loose your job, break up with your girlfriend, begin a downward spiral of self-loathing, frustration, desperation, and imposed sexual abstinence and then attempt to redeem yourself and find meaning in your life by literally climbing your way out. Rinse, Repeat. Alpinist Vol. 15. "The guy who had just broken up with his girlfriend always got the hard leads".

I had not heard anything about this, so I'm doing some research on it. Interesting findings so far: Aloe inhibits growth of Merkel cell carcinoma (a type of skin cancer) cells in vitro Aloe results in keratinocyte proliferation in a dose-dependent manner The following quote is from HERE. Some studies have indicated that aloe vera may have anticancer effects. Emodin, an extract of aloe vera, can inhibit cell proliferation and induce apoptosis in human liver cancer cell lines through p53- and p21-dependent pathway (11). Acemannan, a carbohydrate fraction derived from aloe vera leaf, can stimulate cytokine production in mouse macrophage cell line (17). This component also has immunomodulating activities by inducing maturation of dendritic cells (13). Another in vitro study has indicated aloeride, a polysaccharide obtained from aloe vera juice, as a potent immunostimulator by increasing NF-kappa B activities (14). A compound, di(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP), isolated from aloe vera can inhibit leukemic cells in vitro (16)
