I did get whacked in the head once by a ski pinwheeling on the fulcrum created by my sturdy lease. It was in the sixties when leases were required in-area. I was going really fast on hard-packed bumps. I know, explains a lot. But I can still tie my shoes and count to four backwards from 5. I woke up on my back with several people looking down at me. Some wore looks of horror due to the red snow. My brothers were laughing and encouraged me to do it again.

I have used various neoprene articles to pad my boots too. For instance, I bought a wetsuit top at a garage sale and cut sections of the arm off so I could pull them over my foot and then remove padding where it wasn't needed. But Matt's technique is far better. Mine is just simple and quick.

...give up on Index and go to Squamish, particularly the Smoke Bluffs! Dozens of moderate crack routes with good pro and consistent ratings. Too many classics to list - grab your passport, a guidebook and check em out. Heresy

Cable chains break too easily. I see them on the side of the road all the time. Sometimes they wrap around your axle and can damage your brake line. Buy chains made out of chain and save yourself a hassle. I get mine at garage sales. In fact I have a couple extra pairs. PM me if you are rich.

I find getting Dynafits on in deep powder is difficult. Having brake to fumble with as well would just be that much more of a pain. Just think of how many times you would get the "second" line down. Bummer dude.

I want to video my girls and other events and use it as a good quality still camera. The Stills are actually more important to me than the video. 6+ megapixel, 3x + optical zoom. Everything I see out there so far focuses on the video and does still as a secondary function.

GM is fun. The 10A pitch at the end (3rd pitch)is probably the easiest 10A crack at index. Or do the 5.9 pitch through the left squeeze, a few face moves, and traverse back right to the top of the crack.

Fig 8's were used as belay devices for a short time. At least, it should have been a short time. We stuck the belay loop (bite) through the small hole and clipped to the rope just like a stitch plate, sort of.

...and Index 9's. That will get you honed fast.

I just carry an extra 20. But that's down from 25 so I'm buying more gear for winter.
