  1. You love this word! Bush cannot even be spoken in the same sentence as Clinton…..he is one reason…..Clinton had an 80% approval rate…..Bush 20%......which means the overwhelming majority of the people liked Clinton…..that has to mean something. It could mean good marketing. Don't task me wrong. I generally liked Clinton which is way more than I can say for any other recent president. But he was a marketing genius. His interactions with China were irresponsible imo. We should not have sold them big blue. It was after that that a major hacking war errupted. It was ultimately nullified by better security but it cost us a lot. There are other reasons too. Whitewater is very suspicious to me.etc. Nobody who wants the job should be allowed to have it.
  2. Has anyone here been able to contact this person? He says some of his stuff has sold but I do not see any post from people who actually contacted him. He does not answer my post or PM's. Be careful.
  3. Not sure what you mean here. Is it because quickdraws are too short? I carry and use them for trad all the time. I use them for clipping wires and other gear that is placed in line. I also have a good selection of rabbit runners for when I need more length.
  4. Republican or Democrat, it doesn't matter. Most of them have their pee-pee in the stapler of a corporate monster or two. It's not that this is new. It isn't. It is just one of the darker times in US history with respect to the effects of money buying the passage of laws. I keep waiting for the baby-boomers to wake up and scream "FOUL!" Silly me. Their 401K's are wrapped up in the monsters with the staplers. But the Republican/Democrat thing is fun to argue. Especially when so much of it is so well thought out and articulate. "You stupid head." "No You are a stupid head." "Am not." "Are too." At least I don't have any obligation to put any of you in time out. But you might try it. We need more Cieling Cat.
  5. LOL becuase I beleive war can be justified???? Ever read the old testiment??? Plently wars directed by God himself for his reasons. Nice try. So you are jewish right? Because the New Testament kinda talks about love and other squishy stuff. Like, there was this guy who could have wiped out his tormentors with a sweep of his hand but instead he let them torture and kill him. This is not the m.o. of a violent guy.
  6. Hey Fairweather, Is Bush a better President than Clinton was? Can you explain your opinion?
  7. Thanks fox. That would be very helpful. Every time Lk Sammamish comes up four feet I just hope it doesn't get windy. I have tied the dock in with the same rope for the last two years and it is now a few meters longer.
  8. I need one to tie my dock in. Check oyur PM's.
  9. I didn't think any big name climbers post here? Maybe it's Steve House? He posts here? Croft? Hmmm, probably Croft he's Canadian, thats about a 3 hour drive. That bastard! Maybe he meant big-ASS climbers. There are a lot of those.
  10. I feel better kindof. But I wasn't expecting bold.
  11. Maybe she clipped the piton, girth-hitched it, set up the rope in the sling for a rappell, and cleaned the biner.
  12. Don't mix your meds with alcohol and weed. But if you do, WRITE SOME MORE!
  13. I farted in honor of your accomplishment.
  14. Perhaps not but I was rude again today. I must overpower these irrational urges to spray. Or not.
  15. Thank you for recognizing your shortcomings. I speak as one who has been taken out by an out of control skier. Lessons are a big help tho. And there are times when I have to think about whether I want to ski or climb. It's that much fun. I usually climb.
  16. my quess, but I'n not God. I would imagine he doesn't agree with much we do. your guess is Jesus WOULD agree with this thinking? Hmmmm.... According to the teachings, god sent down his son Jesus because he didn't agree with what was going on; the people were to listen to his teachings, right? about peace, and loving your neighbor and all of that. I would think that a christian, especially a fundamentalist christian, would seriously consider the words of god and his prophet when making decisions about how his government should act, ESPECIALLY if he thinks that god doesn't agree with much that "we" are doing. Wouldn't that make sense? Or maybe I misread your religious convictions. I thought I remember you saying you were a christian, and god created the planet and us etc., (have you ever heard the teaching that says that the way to know god's will is to study the word of his son?) Jews thought the same thing in Germany before WWII, look where it got them. There is a time for fighting. Dietrick Bonhoffer was the last man executed by the Third Reich. He was a Catholic Priest and some think, the greatest Philosopher of the period. He developed the theory of the 5 mandates, Family, Friends, Church, State, and Marriage. There is naturally overlap in some activities and influences between each of the mandates but none should endeavor to, or be allowed to overpower one or more of the others. If there was one of the mandates overpowering one or more of the others then an act of balance was needed. This act was termed, "the Utima Ratio", or Ulitmate Rationalization. It was an act that would normally be condemned but by virtue of the fact that it restores balance, would be acceptable. Father Bonhoffer was one of the masterminds behind the near successful attempt to assinate Hitler in the bunker. I suspect that if he were living in the US today, he would be considered "A Shrill Voice". In the sixties we had acid rain killing crops adn livestock, entire rivers adn lake were dead including Lake Michigan. I remember seeing a river burn for miles from the everyday sludge that was pumped into it. The voices that cried out against this were considered "Shrill" at the time. We have witnessed the birth and development of mass media marketing in politics. The first telivised presidential debate was between Kennedy and Nixon. All the critics thought Nixon had clearly won on substance but the public favored Kennedy by a large margin. Kennedy was handsome. Nixon had a five o'clock shadow. As events proceeded, we saw more and more effects of televised news on politics. Some people learned from this, some did not. It was the Reagan team that really dialed it in. They were masters of propoganda. Most family farmers who had lost their farms during the Reagan years still supported Reagan. They could not believe he had approved the organized corporate takeovers of vast tracts of farm land. But I do not blame Reagan. That would be "shrill". When we invaded Grenada, the very next time we saw Reagan, he was wearing a leather buckskin western cut jacket. He was the first president to be seen in leather since Teddy. He portrayed himself as the classic western hero. Ans it worked. Some good came out of his presidency but he was NOT the "great" president so many people want to beleive he was. He was the first in recent times to attack out miranda rights. But the focus here is on who carried on. It was corporate America. They figured out that they could manipulate Congress and the President with money and marketing. No one in Congress can withstand a full frontal assault by the drug lobby for instance. We have sould our government to Corporate America. Bush sucks but he is not the root of the problem. He IS responsible for many crimes. Invading Iraq was illegal. Every person killed in that struggle is on his head. It is good that Sadam is gone but who will stop the killing now? We need more shrill voices in the world. We need to ask all of the difficult questions of our leaders. We need to get out from in front of the TV. I like the bumper sticker, "Who would Jesus bomb?" Yet we continue to point to our virtues in this illegal war. We "liberated" these people. But first we paid for Sadam's rise to power so we could have access to his oil. Now we continue to drive Hummers and other giant "rigs" because it is our "right". We are free right? We can kick anyone's ass. Eventually the oppressed revolt. Stalin murdered an estimated 50 million of his own people. Where will corporate America draw the line? When will we re-awaken and be shrill again. I REALLY miss the idealism of the sixties.
  17. Someone needs to make Builder206 feel more welcome here. I think I hurt his feelings. Chuck, flame me or something.
  18. You're welcome. I liked them too. I wonder if MattP or Dragon1 felt any ill effects.
  19. First and foremost, I do not take things on this board seriously. If someone flames me, it is probably due to a tradgedy in their life. When I FLAME someone here, I do not mean it to be hurtful or scathing tho it probably comes across that way sometimes. I like open communications mode. Let it fly and screw the pc guidelines. If I hurt your feelings, I am sorry. But you are on the internet and you should try to develope a thicker skin. I only received the first PM where you said you were coming.. I replied;" Cool. We can do anything you want. The R&D route might be too easy for you. If no one else responds, you and I can go do something else. If someone else wants to do thr R&D, you are welcome to come along and/or we can do other things afterwards. There are a few variations on the R&D and lots of other stuff all over the canyon. Keep in touch. Xxxx 425 xxx-xxxx" They have been having problems with the PM's lately. Go to the bottom of the page and expire your cookies. Then press F5 to refresh your cache. I have not "Judged your character." Until now. You responded here and that means a lot. I did PM you my phone number but maybe you didn't get that. My main point in this thread is not to flame you in a horribly negative way but to bring up a valid point. Roll with the punches and feel free to punch back. I don't care what you say. In fact I prefer to be flamed. It gets more interesting. To get back to the point; Climbing with a partner is way more practical than climbing without. When people say they will climb, they need to either make it climbing or communicate why not. If you are not sure, you should not say you will go. Climbing with two is way more efficient than climbing with three or more. Most climbers will not look for more climbers once they have arranged to climb with one. If that one backs out at the last minute or just doesn't show up, you are left in solo mode. It can suck. Most climbers will be mad at you. Again, point for discussion. My focus here is not to trash Builder206 tho there is at least a little reason to do so. Cheers!

  21. I let two guys talk me into using snowshoes on Denali. I consider that the biggest mistake I have ever made in the mountains.
  22. Good points, Bug. It only took one time for someone to no-show on me before I invested in a solo set-up. No more wasted climbing opportunities if my partner flakes. I wouldn't call your partner flakey.
  23. I'm typing while I am testing a new phone system so I am throwing these thoughts out there. I do not mean to trash Builder206. This IS the newbie forum. BUT communicating with another climber about climbing and then not showing up is a big problem. Climbing by yourself is way different from climbing with a partner. Should we all pack solo gear for every outing just in case our prospective partner decides not to show? Let the other guy know if you are not going to make it.
  24. Newbies should know that climbers who don't show can ruin a day of climbing for the other climber. In the case of ropeup it may be a little gray but still, can we communicate? I climbed with other people but did look for Builder206. Wasted time. Wasted energy. If it were to happen again, would YOU plan another outing with him?
