  15. The further you are from the autolock the easier it is to get the rope through.... if your hands are only 1-2 feet from the device it may suck. Try more like 6 feet.

  19. Can't be due to sport climbing Peter, the sport climbers wouldn't be having sex with girls. They would be having sex with the other sport climbing boys.
  20. Take a peak like Wedge Mountain near Whistler. Q: Why the fuck would you suffer up the west ridge when you could climb the north arete? A: You are a peak bagger with no technical skills. Q: What would typically happen if you did suffer up the west ridge? A: You would decide that you needed to learn some technical skills like glacier crossing ASAP so you wouldn't have to grovel up that fucking mobile boulder pile choss heap shit mound ever again.

    Sport vs Trad

This didn't get much (any) press in the North American climbing magazine but the comments about how popular trad adventure climbing is becoming these days in Spain are pretty neat: http://arcteryx.com/Article.aspx?article=Josune-Bereziartu-and-Rikar-Otegui-make-first-free-ascent-on-El-Castillo
  23. For either steel or plastic, volume ice = 1.10 * volume of water. So for a 1 litre bottle, filling it 900 mL full of water should make 990 ML of ice or basically full without exerting extra pressure. Even a 1L plastic bottle entirely full of water can break if you freeze it. But really, basalt doesn't offer a lot of filtration. Springs in basalt = drinking untreated surface water.
