Nice. A good ski mount, that's for sure. Some pictures featuring McGregor: From the NE (from Silver Star Mountain) From the north (from Mt. Goode) and south (Lake Chelan)

What I know/remember: You take the trail through Schrieber Meadow, get onto the moraine to the left (Railroad Grade) or climb up the center: Eventually, you transition from unpermanent snow to permanent snowfield to glacier. Initially the crevasses are few and easy to avoid. We camped maybe 1000 ft up from the Railroad Grade about where the glacier starts. A lot of people camp in this area (some rock outcrops). The next day you follow your nose..it's always nose. Although, Tucan Sam won't like the smell he's following: H2S emissions from the crater. Maybe the wind will be blowing the other way. You basically go up the glacier (few crevasses that I can remember when we did it in June 2000) heading straight for the obvious saddle of the crater: From the crater saddle, you turn left and arc around the yellow cliffs above the crater. This is the Roman Wall part you're talking about but it's not the most difficult part of the wall. The difficult part is farther left (west). Expect steep snow/gelid firn with little in the way of crevasses. Even so, a fall here could be hard to stop depending on how hard the snow is: The Roman Wall bends over to the flat summit area whereupon the hordes of other climbers there will sting away your solitude. Typically, you can unrope on the summit dome and traipse over to the knob to the east. This knob is often considered to be the true summit: What will the weather be like? For a Kiwi: why perfect, of course. Haven't seen your mug at pub clubs too much lately. Where have you been?

Randy's Mariners no-hitter was in 1990. Chris Bosio's was the 1993 one. My Randy Johnson in-person highlight was going to one of the games he pitched against the A's where he had 19 strikeouts where Mark McGuire got ahold of one of his pitches and hit is something like 550 feet to left field. I was sitting in the right field seats and got to watch this majestic moonshot arc up and over and keep going and going and going. This was in the old Kingdome. I thought the ball was going to sail right out that door to the outside that used to let the light in all the time. That door was at the base of the back wall of the stadium. The ball didn't quite make it there but it was still a spectacular homerun. I've always liked Randy Johnson--partially because I too am a lefty and have a fairly strong throwing arm. Regarding the Rocket: he has zero no-hitters, Randy has two. The Express (Nolan) had 8 no-hitters but only struck out 19 in a game for his max. Both the Unit and the Rocket struck out 20 in a 9-inning game (Rocket did it twice). All these pitchers bring different stats to their hall-of-fame status. It's not really fair to compare them across these different stats. They're all hall of famers. They're all awesome.

Yeah, but you know that guy pissed his wetsuit when that fishy form appeared. It might take a second to realize it was only a dolphin and not a shark. By that time, the bladder has evacuated. Okay, I can't resist my own caption here.... "Timex: takes a lickin' but keeps on tickin'"

Agreed. I'm one of the dumbest, most slow-witted posters here. I use to be smart and quick on the wit, but that was before 7/03/01.

Hey look everybody, it's a new...politica... threa.....

Dudes, I post maybe 6 times a day on average (depending on the day) and feel like I'm posting too much. Multiply that by 5 and it's basically five times as long...is it not? It's not just about posting. It's also about monitoring the threads you've posted in, reading responses, scanning new threads, looking at the gallery, and so on. For every post, there's probably twice as much time required. So, for one post that took five minutes to write, it takes an additional five minutes to monitor and read responses in it (the thread in question). And I'm not even talking about the downtime doing nothing just waiting for someone to respond (especially when you know they will). Yes sir, 18000 posts --> I can only imagine the number of hours Dru has spent staring at this website. YOU are so suck.

I know some facts on Martlet, but why divulge them here and ruin the fun? Martlet won't have time to vote because he'll be too busy spraying here (if 330 posts in 12 days is any indication).

Say, how do we know Baddog isn't Annabelle herself making a post via satellite from basecamp? Although, I must say the avatar "Baddog" doesn't jive with the lovely Annabelle. I concur pretty much with what AlpineK said, although I don't disrespect someone just because they choose to climb Everest. There is the allure of Everest because it is the highest point of land in the world. It is the ultimate point to reach in those terms alone. The fact that the trade route is now a zoo of homo sapiens sapiens does not detract from the allure of it being the highest. The highest point had to be somewhere. Do too many people climb or attempt to climb Everest every year? Yes, but who am I to really judge this. Is it a source of income for the peoples of Nepal? Yes. Baddog: your plea for us to apologize is weak--especially in light of you doing so from the comfort of anonymity. This is a bulletin board and this thread is in the spray forum. This is not a government agency or a newspaper. We don't have to retract anything we might say here. Besides, what's the fun in not making fun of her?

Are you sure, Icegirly? Better check your source and make sure it isn't based on the older source of Jane Ace. I have always assumed it was Jane Ace (1900/05 - 1974) and a simple websearch seems to bear this out in many examples. I'm talking about the "Time wounds all heels" quote only. I don't know, I could be wrong. Some other Jane-isms: "Familiarity breeds attempt." "Home wasn't built in a day." "Take the bitter with the better." A good biography of Jane & Goodman Ace.

Jane (Sherwood) Ace. Ho hum.

A new device is just out on the market for cracked. Have any of you seen it? It's called the Remote Pagetop Applicator. Now, from the middle of nowhere, this little gadget beams a signal via satellite bounce to a local server that checks for threads with 25 posts. If such a post is located, the applicator sends a signal to log in cracked and have the applied in cracked's name. Cost: $200 but you get a $50 rebate if you have more than 3,000 posts. Your rebate is $100 if 1/10th of those posts were for pagetop purposes. The applicator comes with a free one year membership to the magazine Pagetop Times. Now, group hug

Things I'd like to be able to do in the gallery: 1. edit posts below a picture 2. vote anonymously (i.e., not have a blank post below just because I voted) 3. mass uploading (or at least up to, say, five photos at once).

Translation: j_b said, "I have no sense of humor. I never have. Won't someone love me? " j_b, you won't find me cutting you any slack because you got your panties all in a bunch for being referred to out of the blue on a thread you hadn't even posted in. Notice I also used Fairweather in my sarcasm. You and he simply are tops on my list in terms of number of posts of a political nature. You and Fairweather seem to be bastions of opposite ends of the political spectrum. My using you as an example in no way negates your viewpoints. I suppose I could have used Peter Puget or JayB in lieu of Fairweather but Fairweather it was. I don't dislike you j_b and I actually concur with a lot of the things you said over the years, but I know I've exuded waaaaay more humor than you on this board. Very seldom (but I have seen you do so) have you posted anything on this board that wasn't of a political nature. Don't you have any other notes to play?
-
But this isn't supposed to be a political thread. And, what's up, are your friends running late? It's a half-hour past 4:15PM. Admit it man, you're addicted to this website. You're gonna blow another whole weekend perched on your computer seat.
-
That's alright Marylou, cuz your personality is a lot like j_b's. You don't see me complaining when people editorialize about my apparent views on certain political subjects or poke fun at me. To dish it I've got to be able to accept it. What goes around comes around and you and j_b know full well you've done it to me too. How many times have you (or Icegirl) called me a "republican" at pub club or online or whereever? For the love of god, I am not a registered republican. I don't vote republican. I vote how I damn well choose. Cracked: thanks.
-
j_b, I'm sending you one free ticket to a humor seminar. In the seminar, they teach a segment about "poking fun." Good stuff. I graduated from there. I got high marks for the "sarcasm made easy" segment.

They don't because the name "Mt. Delabarre" is unofficial. It could be "officially" named Mt. Blake in the future. You never know. Lots of unofficial names (to the USGS) are taken as official to the climbing community. You could click on any quad on this map. Any peak listed with an asterick is an unofficial name. Here are some examples for you for peaks the climbing community would probably take as official: Kololo Peaks south of Glacier Peak, Courtney Peak in the Lake Chelan-Sawtooth Wilderness, and Devils Tongue by Mt. Spickard.

Isn't there a saying something like "Nice guys finish last, bad girls finish first?"
-
It may not be a political thread (to you) but you know damns well Fairweather and j_b will see the name "Rumsfeld" and turn it into one. He said, she said, they said, we said, you said. But but but but but.....
-
Quoth Josh from another thread: "Don't worry guys, I'll be heading to the hills tomorrow afternoon [May 14] for a few days." Hey, bud, it's 3:20PM. Are you sure you have time for this thread--yet another political thread? Perhaps you wish to get the ball rolling then come back in a few days and pore through it all. Live it all at once, so to speak.

What about a raw egg from a glass (sans shell, of course)? Or is that an "old drunken wive's tale?"

the website you provide is not working. I don't know where this wall is you're talking about. Need more info. Perhaps it's on the webpage.
