I have always perceived the Republicans as wanting government to be less into people's lives. But then again...a lot of the Republicans were for the so called "Patriot Act."

I don't see that many black folk in the mountains. Part of it is becuase the population in Seattle area is mostly white. But you know, half the population is women and I don't see 50% of the outdoorsy folk being women. So I chalk it up to less interest by black people and by women to be in the outdoors. Maybe it is a genetic thing that the white male is predisposed for more physical challenges.

I will have to play a little devils advocate here. I have always been in favor of motorized use to maintain trails. For example if it takes 6 people to clear 20 logs in 3 days becuase they have to use a hand type saw and walk in, I would rather have 1 person on a motorbike with a chainsaw do the same work over 1 or 2 days. Chainsaws should be allowed to maintain work on trails.

check out the timeline. George Bush did not think of running for president until he met the Hawks in 1998. (George Shultz was part of that too) I would like to know what they talked about to him in 1998. I bet the sales pitch to Bush jr. went something like this: "We want Saddam, but we can't get elected. We feel piss poor we didn't get him in the first go round and you know Clinton doesn't have balls. You want Saddam becuase he was after your daddy in 1992 by hiring a hit squad. So lets get together. You run for president. You have a good chance of winning! Eventually we find a reason for going to war, and we run the whole thing. We all get Saddam outta power, and you get the glories of sending a dictator to hell. Remember Clinton has disgraced the presidency with Monica and you restore the presidency to its morals."

duh. This was not Bush's war. This was Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Paul Wolfowitz's war. It was a Hawk's war. Go back to the original Iraq war and see what the role each one of these players played. They screwed up at the end of the original Iraq war becuase they didn't bring the downfall of Saddam--hell, even Norman Schwarzkopff admitted that mistake. Those Hawks only got George Bush involved in 1998 to run for president becuase Saddam had tried to hire a hit squad to assassinate Bush senior. It was a Hawk's war from beginning to end. The only goal was to eliminate Saddam becuase they failed in the first go round. The goal was not to bring democracy to the country.

Lower taxes. Yes. But less government? No way. Check out the national debt and how it balloons during "republican" times such as Reagan, Newt Gringrich, and currently. Less government means less spending. And the current republicans sure do not know how to spend less. Republican ideals are in a qualm of hypocrisy these days.
