my mechanic told me it's going to be $350 for front and rear brake pads. wtf??? that's probably more than a third (or maybe even half ) of what my car is worth! anybody know a cheap place to get brakes done?

sturtevant's has a nearby "bargain" store - ski mart (425-637-8958) at 830 106th Ave NE, Bellevue, WA 98004. the sales people there should be able to help you choose a good setup. they have a ton of kid's stuff.

Compact flash card operating temperatures?
thelawgoddess replied to Dr_Crash's topic in The Gear Critic
Yes dear, those are the ones I mention in my original post (down to -13 F). ok. the ones i was reading about would operate down to -40c or even -50c, though. that sounds helpful - will do. thanks! -

do we REALLY need to see such photos? -
seth, you'd be great for it. i have a friend who's on rmi. i can try to get his number for you - not sure where he's at right now but i'll try to track him down. i have another friend who couldn't get on even though he's more qualified. attitude plays a big part. (as in, don't have too much ... and you don't so no worries there.)

Compact flash card operating temperatures?

drc, i read you can get industrial compact flash cards that will operate in some insanely low temps! does anybody have recommendations for fast 256 or 512 cards? i'm not finding my internet search very helpful. -
okay, after thinking about what camera to get for almost a year now i've decided to take advantage of dell's sale, coupon, and free shipping ... and get the s410. finally!!! some day i'll get a nicer fancier camera to complement it but this is a huge upgrade from the disposable ones i've been using ever since i got rid of my slr years and years ago. can't wait for the postman!

much better picture! that looks sweet but unfortunately (despite the "real" job) it is WAY out of my budget.

how long do your s400 batteries typically last? do you carry a spare? or two spares? how many would you take and would you be worried if you were going on a two-week trip to the backcountry and planned to take a ton of pics? -
i have one of these in my fridge too. btw when i lived in belgium all we drank was evian, but the evian in the states doesn't taste the same and i really don't like it. or maybe they just changed the recipe. whatever, aquafina's not bad. neither is fiji. and what about that fancy norwegian voss? i tried some water with extra oxygen once ... not sure if it really had more o's but it was pretty good.

osprey makes rad packs. i haven't seen the 55+5 in person either, but i would expect it to be just as well-fitting as the 40+5 in the same size.

well, just like any other ski area they can't guarantee conditions. the times i went to alta and snowbird i was quite "unimpressed" ...

depending on which variation of my name i used ... bushy mcbushy, commander nuttykins, or colonel drunkepaws. wow.

i say rrrt rrrt. (you know, that sound they make. )

i agree. i was approved for a solo permit not too far back and my climbing resume is by no means impressive. i do, though, have some glacier and altitude travel experience (including as the lead up a couple of local volcanos.) and i also have practiced crevasse rescue skills and am rather conscientious about things like this. or at least i try to be!

depends on what you consider "better" ... probably "better" at mammoth.

good thai food? just about all thai food is good!!! i like most of the ones i've been to around here - they all have something or other going for them depending on your mood. thai tom, kwanjai, sea thai, racha, tawon, jai thai, siam on broadway, the place across from siam on broadway, little thai, noodle ranch, thai ginger ... countless others as the list goes on. the latest new one i tried is toi (downtown) -- and i have to say YUM! of course, my bf also makes some pretty damned fine thai food, too.

OUCH!!! hope your finger's feeling better soon ...
