  1. THANK YOU, squid. i actually finally figured that out this morning, but that's really all i needed to know for now. the packaging that the card was in made it sound like you had to remove the software before using the card. shows you how much i knew about these cf cards before today! well, now i can just go on my merry way and take pictures and deal with getting a card reader after i have some time to look around and see what's out there and what i want to buy.
  2. working in the outdoor industry can be a serious compromise, but it is definitely nice being around people who are in it because they love it. if you are really passionate about wanting to be in the industry to the point that you're willing to do any kind of work (like retail or being a lifty) then you should be able to find something.
  3. the removable disk thing doesn't work. it says to insert a disk into the drive. the camera shows up in my computer but when i click on it it shows an empty folder. i have a question: should i be able to take pictures on this card without formatting it first? even if there's software on it?
  4. i've tried with the usb connection. i've tried calling lexar but gave up after being on hold for 12 minutes long distance. i'm still on hold for their live chat. oh, well. i have win xp so that's not it. and i just bought the camera, but i can check for updated software anyway. i also don't have a laptop at the moment. i think i may just have to buy a reader ... or just go without the software, which i only need if the card goes belly up ... and at that point i'd need a reader anyway.
  5. how annoying! i assumed i would get a diskette; not have to buy more shit to use the shit i just bought. nice that they tell you that before you open it and it's un-returnable.
  6. I just bought a Lexar Pro card that has software preloaded on it that I need to save to my computer before I format it. It won't download via the program that I download the pictures with, so I'm not sure what I need to do now. Do I need to have some sort of card reader or should I be able to transfer/copy those files via the camera connected to my computers USB port?
  7. welcome to the world of good vision!
  8. i take it you were snowboarding?
  9. My parents got 14" of freshies on Sunday. They live in Yorktown, VA ... where there are no mountains. They don't even like snow. I say ... life is definitely not fair! (i posted a picture in the gallery, but can't seem to get it to show here from there.)
  10. if you want to climb routes, go to vertical world. sure, sg has some routes, but not nearly as many as vw. rumr climbs at vw ... what more do you need to know? really, though, you can get a great workout at vw. and they do have bouldering as well.
  11. i noticed the olympics driving back to town over 520 yesterday and thought they looked really spectacular. what a great pic!!!
  12. dvd changer! yay! :-)
  13. this is more tele v. alpine, but ... i recently called karhu about its ruckits, which were rumored to be the same as line's mavericks to get the real scoop. they are the same ski except the ruckit has a topsheet beneath the foot that makes it stiffer (to accomodate the pressure put on that area by the tele turn). the ruckit was going for about half the price of the line ... so i got the ruckit.
  14. annie's macaroni ... YUM!!!
  15. i went and looked at cameras this week and was quite intrigued by that sony. the big guy at cameras west downtown seemed to think it's the shit. they have it on sale there for $350. another camera i was intrigued by, though, is the new generation canon elph, the sd300. it's also 5mp but is tiny as all getout. we're talking serious back of your tight-assed jeans pocket size! but at $400 i don't think it's a price point item. i decided i wanted something that was really good quality that was still compact ... and i'm paying just $240 for the canon s410 i ordered. the a85 and a95 were very compelling alternatives - particularly using aa batteries (4, though - that sony only uses 2), but i really wanted something i could literally put in any normal-sized pocket. maybe it's just me, but i really thought the canons felt better in my hands than the sony did. and i can't wait for my new toy to arrive. btw, if you buy the sony at cameras west before christmas you can test drive it basically for free - try it out and they will even pay for you to get prints made ... and then you can return it for a full refund up to 10 days after christmas.
  16. sweet! i'm officially jealous.

  21. i definitely know my ass from a whole in the ground, but working on a car is a whole 'nother story. i would be down with learning how to do stuff like change the brake pads myself but i think it would be better if i had someone there to sort of talk me through it and make sure i didn't screw up!
