  1. Do it as a day trip, or an overnight, or a week. It is a beautiful place, and whatever itinerary you select will be fine. You may have a problem with insects in the main (mid-season), though. To get to Lake Viviane, directly below Prussik Peak, the hike is about equal in distance and vertical gain either way (Snow Creek trailhead or Mountaineer Creek and over Aasgard Pass). If the weather is good, I'd prefer Aasgard, but if it is poor, Snow Creek.
  2. JPG's, I presume. Any suggested file size or resolution?
  3. The actual history of this deal is a little complicated, but the original "grant" from the Icicle Fund was $10,000.00 short of the purchase price, and there was an additional $6,000.00 shortfall for the $20,000.00 "endowment" that the Land Trust needed to have in order to take posession of the land (they had to have a fund for ongoing expenses like taxes and insurance and stuff). That is where the Washington Climbers Coalition campaign (and all of you who actually kicked in the cash) came in. Cards were traded along the way, so that in the end it is technically correct that the Icicle Fund paid the purchase price and climbers have put up more than half of that endowment.

  6. The large grant was predicated on a showing of interest and support from the climbing community, and we have had a tremendous showing of support from all of you. A separate grant from the Access Fund has not come through yet, and there is some concern that they may not fund the full amount, so donations are still needed -- but THANK YOU ALL!
  7. Anybody have slides of some Mexican volcanos? Anybody have a digital projector?
  8. Don't know about that, but enjoy Static Point while you can. There is talk of a real possibility that they may close the road entirely -- maybe back at the informatikon booth -- for some kind of habitat thing.
  9. I got my thank you letter in the mail today. Keep 'em rollin'.
  10. We may be able to get the road reopened if we can bump it up their list a bit. Lets do it. WCC Action Alert
  11. Yes, it's cinqo de mayo. A small survey I took suggested that would be a fine date - I hope so.

    Could it be?

Think: they allege a "ring." You don't have to talk.
  13. Once again, its time for the Climbers Picnic at Woodland Park. Stand by for details....
  14. The "liberal media" is so afraid of being "liberal" that they don't do their job. They gave GW a free pass when the "commission" came out and said that there had been no distortion of intelligence reports in the sales job for the Gulf War even though just two years ago they reporte all kinds of stories about how State Department and Intelligence staffers told Bush and Powell that the Uranium tubes were not for Uranium and the meeting between al Queda and Saddam never happened, and the Yellow Cake thing was bogus, etc. When it was revealed that they could not identify a single case where a family farm had EVER been sold because of an inability to pay "Death Taxes," did the "liberal media" make much noise about this? Etc. Etc. Etc.
  15. Au contraire. "the goats often push and shove each other" when stampeding to get away from unmwanted advances.

Mr. Bob is in for a rude surprise if he thinks his or her insurance company is going to fairly reimburse him for his car and pay for any health care he needs without his having to sue them! Let's see: Your car is totalled, so we're going to value it at half blue-book, depreciate it a little more, and then charge the "salvage fee." Didn't you know your injury coverage expires after one year, even though you still need treatment? Our expert says that if your trunk was only smashed in a foot, you can't be that hurt. Oh yes, and the arm problem? That was from climbing not from the accident. Etc. Etc. Claim denied!
  18. F'in weather report threw you a curve ball. It was pretty damn nice over there, actually, and I'll vouch for your hospitality! Looking forward to the Fall.
  19. The Forest Service crew repaired a major washout below Jumbo Mountain, but they then declared the repair "unsafe." There is a concrete barrier about one or two miles in from the Mountain Loop Highway. We need to voice our concerns here, and we may be able to get it fixed. Does anybody have any heavy equipment and a truck to transport it up there to help with the road repair? WCC web page
  20. I don't know about this year but I skied it last year, about mid April, and there was already a place where we had to take skis off to climb down over some rocks low in the couloir. Otherwise it was fine, and we got to camp on dry ground at the bottom.
  21. Does anybody have E's phone number over there?
  22. I'm not so sure about Bonanza, but I agree with Klenke about Index and Phelps. All those other peaks in #2? A curiosity, for sure, but most of us will never want to go there.

  25. 1. W. Ridge, Pidgeon Spire (5.3?) 2. Standard Route, Snowpatch Spire (5.8?) 3. E. Buttress, Bugaboo Spire. (5.7?) In that order.
