  1. Thing is, before we even went in there all the whiny assed liberals, myself included, were saying that there was no question that we could win the war, but the "peace" would not be so easy. If I remember right, you were one who was denying this was a significant likelihood or at least minimizing it. It is not a case of hindsight but one of foresight.
  2. Most excellent!! Is the forest service doin' the fixin', or locals? The Forest Service. WCC web page
  3. I have a screen, but it is a little undersized for our purposes (4 feet). It works just fine, though. I'll bring an extension cord and an old school projector (Kodak).
  4. When I climbed the route, in July, there were at least ten parties at Thumb Rock. Not everybody had the prime spot, but there was no problem. Climber-induced rockfall can be an issue on the lower half of the route, and multiple teams may get in your way a bit, but overall I don't think crowding is a tremendous hazard on that route.
  5. The bicycle will not be needed after next week.
  6. Is there anything wrong with someone using the "Climbing Partners" forum to advertise for climbing partners? Sad.
  7. It looks like we have a winner! The roadway supervisor in the Sedro Wooley office called me to say I could tell folks to stop writing and phoning them about the Darrington road now because they are having a contractor start work on the road repair next week. It still wouldn't hurt to send them a letter - but it would be more like "thank you for maintaining access" as opposed to "we're mad because you closed the road." The Darrington district has been supportive of climbing throughout the years. Lets keep it that way.
  8. That's a novel idea. The reverse slapping crabwalk. 'Have to give it a try....
  9. Do it as a day trip, or an overnight, or a week. It is a beautiful place, and whatever itinerary you select will be fine. You may have a problem with insects in the main (mid-season), though. To get to Lake Viviane, directly below Prussik Peak, the hike is about equal in distance and vertical gain either way (Snow Creek trailhead or Mountaineer Creek and over Aasgard Pass). If the weather is good, I'd prefer Aasgard, but if it is poor, Snow Creek.
  10. JPG's, I presume. Any suggested file size or resolution?
  11. The actual history of this deal is a little complicated, but the original "grant" from the Icicle Fund was $10,000.00 short of the purchase price, and there was an additional $6,000.00 shortfall for the $20,000.00 "endowment" that the Land Trust needed to have in order to take posession of the land (they had to have a fund for ongoing expenses like taxes and insurance and stuff). That is where the Washington Climbers Coalition campaign (and all of you who actually kicked in the cash) came in. Cards were traded along the way, so that in the end it is technically correct that the Icicle Fund paid the purchase price and climbers have put up more than half of that endowment.

  14. The large grant was predicated on a showing of interest and support from the climbing community, and we have had a tremendous showing of support from all of you. A separate grant from the Access Fund has not come through yet, and there is some concern that they may not fund the full amount, so donations are still needed -- but THANK YOU ALL!
  15. Anybody have slides of some Mexican volcanos? Anybody have a digital projector?
  16. Don't know about that, but enjoy Static Point while you can. There is talk of a real possibility that they may close the road entirely -- maybe back at the informatikon booth -- for some kind of habitat thing.
  17. I got my thank you letter in the mail today. Keep 'em rollin'.
  18. We may be able to get the road reopened if we can bump it up their list a bit. Lets do it. WCC Action Alert
  19. Yes, it's cinqo de mayo. A small survey I took suggested that would be a fine date - I hope so.

    Could it be?

Think: they allege a "ring." You don't have to talk.
  21. Once again, its time for the Climbers Picnic at Woodland Park. Stand by for details....
  22. The "liberal media" is so afraid of being "liberal" that they don't do their job. They gave GW a free pass when the "commission" came out and said that there had been no distortion of intelligence reports in the sales job for the Gulf War even though just two years ago they reporte all kinds of stories about how State Department and Intelligence staffers told Bush and Powell that the Uranium tubes were not for Uranium and the meeting between al Queda and Saddam never happened, and the Yellow Cake thing was bogus, etc. When it was revealed that they could not identify a single case where a family farm had EVER been sold because of an inability to pay "Death Taxes," did the "liberal media" make much noise about this? Etc. Etc. Etc.
  23. Au contraire. "the goats often push and shove each other" when stampeding to get away from unmwanted advances.
