I like the ID MK3 which would fit the criteria you are looking for. From what I hear, the ID has canvas corner pockets for the bottom of the poles whereas the Bibler has a metal washer that you have to shoot the pole through and if you miss, you get a nice hole in the floor.

Allison: Softshells are not raingear and dirt does seem to be difficult to get out but, most people who only wear them in the field don't care about it. I have pants and jacket softshells and they still bead up water just fine. I've probably washed them 10 times in 3 years, only when smelly and they look like I've crapped myself. They hold up to abrasion and bush wacking much better than a hard shell, and if it's raining, I go home or break out a rain jacket. They shed snow just fine. The main reason I like the softshells is breathability, they seem to be much more breathable than goretex and I sweat a lot so I stay drier with the Schoeller type stuff and don't have to worry about the random shower or wind soaking me from the outside. Check out the Castor jacket by Mammut on www.sierratradingpost.com it's said to be the only seamtaped softshell on the market. It would be interesting to find out what the real difference is bewteen Patagonias DWR and say, REI's or MEC's. That could account for part of your problem.

Just had one last night. It's just ok, a little sweet for my taste.

I thought Mike Adamson was gonna pound on me once. Caveman wiped his ass with an old bandana I found!!! Onetime I asked Alpine K where I could find a good deal on a BC ski set up and he replied - "a ski store". Dru contradicted me on like my second post here (I've considered him a big meanie ever since). Mattp said my friends are "dipshits" not too long ago Erik told me he only cares what his friends think. I haven't had any warnings from the moderators yet, but I have had some avatar's banned (for no reason!!! ).

Try looking at a ski store. or www.evogear.com if you have some idea of what you want/need and are just looking for a good deal on a particular pair of boots.

Cool photo, looks like the bridge of doom! (it was probably due for replacement anyway).

I used to work on big comercial projects, including some high rise buildings and it was pretty boring with all the safty gear. Using a bowsain chair 20 stories over the pavement was fun.

I kill and eat anything legal. The most tastiest exotic dish was probably calf sweetbreads. My wife and I were at a fancy place in Napa Valley (Greystone Institute I think) and I ordered the sweetbreads thinking it was like frybread or something. After devouring the dish, I told the waiter he had brought me someone elses appetizer but it sure was good. His face turned red then white and he stammered out what it was I ate. I just smiled and said I'd eat pulverized calf brains again anytime. That was good stuff! Anyone have a good recipie for cow liver or heart? I have a bunch of each and having a hard time finding simple recipies.

I'm sure trask thought to include a fire suppression system in the mechanical drawings when he applied for his permit.

When I saw the subject of this thread, I thought "Alright! James is looking for a good deal on a new rig with a police scanner so he can evade the fuzz, I knew deep down he's a redneck". Like this one:

What do you training guru's think of doing laps on a 2.5" diameter 25' long rope hung from a tree using only your hands (no assistance from legs)? Seems like good simulation for climbing cracks to me but I checked and (yep) I still suck. Seems to give a fair workout on the forearms and really hammers my triceps and upper abdominals. After being shamed by climbers of every size and build, I still think technique and experience is what gets the send. I are so suck.

Speaking of feat's of strength, I just read on some fitness type website (mainly for weight lifters) that an "advanced" exercise is to perform a one legged squat, arms straight out in front, one leg straight out in pike position, squat down ass to calf and back up. Give it a try, it's not too hard, and probably good for developing hip strength and balance. I can only do six with each leg, but no one arm chin ups.

You probably won't be able to tell if the schrund will be bad until May, it really depends on how the weather plays out this spring. The schrund was still pretty straight forward on June 6th this year and once it was overhanging, I read that some parties simply went around it instead of spending a bunch of time aiding up it, so keep that option in mind if it is sketchy. Personally, I'd take the synthetic jacket and like Bug said, the avalanches would concern me most in May. Have fun.

I've seen where people just use a pair of plastic ankle cuffs over their leathers. Aparantly it's effective to a certain degree.

Is this back in the same drainage as the Kromona Mine? I was back there a few years ago and don't remember seeing anything like that. How tall is the wall?

I'd probably spend my time creating avatars to post on here since I'd be the only poster.
