  1. Thanks for helping save the world Mike! You are doing your part to lessen our reliance on foreign oil! Dave, good work doing the trail cleanup shit man
  2. I think you want to start at Stuart Pass, not Goat Pass. Goat Pass puts you on the NW Butt route.

Given our choices, Kerry is the best man for the job. That's the heart of the matter. I think it is no secret with many Kerry "supporters" that they/we are actually anti-Bush. What's with the strawman jive trying to turn that into some big evil secret that needs to be outed?

, you are out there Fat boy. Shouldn't Bush's "service" be referred to in quotes?
  6. He didn't get banned for using the thingy. He got banned for being a completely obnoxious asshole and having a history of being a completely obnoxious asshole. That night that he got banned 14(?) times was a case where one moderator was helping him out, and being a COA too, and kept unbanning Scott. Quite lurid eh?

"He was given several opportunities to come out of the pipe and he basically signaled with his middle finger," Stone said.
  8. I haven't been on the climbs but, was in the area on Wednesday. The NE Buttress appears to be a rock climb now. Still some snow on that section just after the steepness relents, so could be drippy. Snow was good walking snow on Wednesday, but soft enough for easily controlled glissade back down without an axe. Looked like the gully above the "thumbtack" still had snow. Of couse, this could all change by tomorrow. Does anybody really buy that the weather's gonna suck tomorrow? Sure looks nice now.

Do they yell, "Outta the way GRANDPA!!!" when they swerve past you?
  10. thanks fern
  11. Do you guys still consider it an onsight if you downclimb to a no-hands rest (e.g. the ground) and rest? I do.
  12. Holy shit what a cluster!! People, if there are multiple parties waiting for this climb, try it one pitch with a 60. I'm pretty sure it'll make it. Last month I was able to rap from the second set of anchors (above the bulge) with a 60m, so I would think it would go as a single pitch. I've climbed the whole thing in one pitch with a 50m.
  13. Yes, cman is definitely not a "friend of the Tooth". GD, on my way out I passed this guy coming up the Snow Lake trail, apparently laboring intensely in the hot sun, with long rainpants and long-sleeve dark-blue polypro. Good size backpack too, and treking poles. Looked mighty uncomfortable. I think I was the one hiking way too fast though. cool pic jja!
  14. me too! That's one crazy building.
  15. Brothers Constance Warrior Mystery Deception Are all good, all a little long for a day trip, but you sound like you've done a lot worse.

Just thought I'd put up a little counter-thread to the peeve thread. Peeves are usually defined as things that really bug some people for some reason, but other than the needle in the brain, won't really cause any major damage to anyone. So what about the chuckles you get from other people being peeved about inconsequential things? Are you into shadenfreude? What hot chick out there wouldn't love having Klenke take her out to a restaurant just to watch as his brain slowly boils over the foil-wrapped butter, . Who among you would NOT like to be standing behind Gary Ingvy to witness 10 minutes of antsy fidgeting turn to full on body twitching by the time the 3rd person in front of him decides to pay with a check? Just a thought. Any good stories of witnessing people making much ado over nothing? Anybody out there ever intentionally attempted to aggravate the situation? Hope everyone likes the little green post icon guy I decided to use for this thread
  17. Bush said something to the effect of "he did a great job". This administration's absolute refusal to publicly admit to messing up anything has cost them their chance to scapegoat the one guy that could conceivably be blamed for some of their high-profile failures (and is a Clinton apointee to boot!). Interesting.
  18. It's a good workout. It's fun. It's a good excuse to get outdoors for a few hours. Beats jogging in town.
  19. Went up for a lap on Der Tooth yesterday morning (conditions quite good right now BTW, easy walking snow, soft enough for safe axe-free glissades too). And Michael Layton, I used my Cinder Cones. They are soaked but worked well. Anyway, that was 3 times this year (so far). Here's a report of my first Tooth send of '04, and I followed that up a couple weeks later with a send that I failed to cheastbeat about. What's your Tooth Count? Keep a running tally in this thread. Fabulous prize for unabashed person with highest credible Tooth Count by year's end.
  20. I like the "thank you" aknowledgment (didn't know it was a NOLS thing). It's very often quite useful to let your partner know that you understood his/her communication. For example, so they don't keep screaming "belay on" while you are working to tear down the anchor. Replying, or ever using, "OK" for any communication can easily be misunderstood since it can mean just about anything. Misunderstandings are usually things you do NOT want in communications between partners on a climb.
  21. That's what that was?! Yeah I got woken up by a rumble or something (you know how that is, when you get woken out of a deep sleep, you know something woke you up, but the details are pretty fuzzy). I was sure enough that it was something as I got up and walked around and made sure everything was where it should be. Crazy!
  22. We found this mexican restaurant one night in a drunken stupor in Watsonville CA. The menu read tacos cervesa cigarillos cafe Never could find that place again.
