You never know. I watched "The day after tomorrow" and I know that they have their facts straight. 7 days and the world could be a frozen chunk of ice! And the instant freeze was soo realistic not to mention the thrilling conclusion that shows the survivors hiking out onto the ice. Wow!

Hey Rumr, I went rock climbing and I just wanted to let you know, "It f'kin' sucked balz!" I can't wait until it snows and buries all of the rock.

The price river log. Schweet! As soon as the bro started I think he wished he crawled.

"Unfortunate developement". Ya, they said the same thing about Whistler in the 60's. It's time to get with the times Cletus. This is 2004. This is just what Washington needs. That's great Bandit. You have the right to voice your opinion. Go for it! I for one enjoy our wilderness and the lack of commercial use we are fortunate enough to enjoy in washington. Whistler is great, but there are a thousand hills like that around that part of the world. We only have so many volcanoes.

I remember a time when I was accused of having a fire at colchuck lk. It's about 6 in the morning, maybe earlier and I'm biving on the shore only to be awakened by what I considered to be snaffles ruffling around in my stuff. NO! What the hell, it's Larry the tool. I think WTF. So I say, "Excuse me?" He says, "I can feel the coals, they’re warm." Not to mention his fidgeting. This guy is excited. I think WTF again before uttering, "What the hell." He clarifies his intrusion by declaring, "You guys had a fire last night and I watched it from across the lake for hours. The pit behind the log here confirms it. You guys are in BIG trouble.” He continues his digging in what could’ve been a 100 year old pit. I start breakfast. My partner wakes up then by which time the investigation has ended. He pronounces, “I assume you don’t have any permits.” Believe it or not, we did and for that camp for two people. He then says, “These are fake.” We say, “You’ve got to be kidding me!” Meanwhile he calls down to the ranger station and they say that they have no record of us. I’m thinking, this is classic! How can this get any worse? I then tell him that there are several people along this lake, my sleeping bags color is a glowing orange and we had our stove on. Maybe it’s someone else. Our final argument was. “Now if this was such a great concern and soo despicable, assuming there was a fire, why didn’t you come last night? It’s a 10 minute walk.” He had no answer and we said that there is no way we are going to pay any fine for something we didn’t do. Hell, we even laid our garbage out and he said, “It’s not all there!” He had our DL#’s and our cars License plate#. My partner and I packed our stuff and went and climbed several peaks. We had entertained the fool long enough. On the way back we overheard him in a conversation about these two low life’s. I wish I got the guys name because that dude went too far. Edit to add: I just wanted to say that I find most rangers to be awesome people. I didn't want to bash too much, but I thought others may find this story entertaining. Anyhow this was a case where larry the tool really sucked...

its not RuMR who looks like a six year old around here... Imagine the crap I would get for going to rockclimbing.com and saying, "Rockclimbing SUX." I would get some serious smack flung my way. Anyone who has the gumption to come to the freshiezone should expect the same. Anyhow, I've nothin' better to do than act like a 6 year old when I'm having freshie withdrawls.

Oh yea Sky. Thanks for the laugh. While I'm sitting here I'll hypothetically be making turns with yea. By the weekend, though, we'll be joking about how the rockclimbers are hypothetically climbing in the pissing rain and crack climbing down with smiffy.
-
You rockclimbers always say the say thing (or is it just you guys), "Skiing Sux." These postulations sound like sniviling children whining about homework. Start a thread about how skiing sucks and we'll post photos of big grins. All the pics of rockclimbers look like they are about to take a big sh**.

Man, I'm stoked to go rock climbing...and I don't even rock climb. Hey cracked, one year right? I just want 5.9 though cause that will get me to the top of most things that I'm interested in. I'd be stoked to be a gaper climber...

I've seen nothing here that is slander. Only information, and opinions about several articles that have been posted, which frankly seem to be full of misinformation. Passing threats of slander around doesn't seem very productive. What would be, is clearing the air. My opinion is that this would be an unfortunate developmennt. Others may differ. We have the right to voice those concerns.

Go for it. This is a great trip, especially for beginners. If you have a strong and modivated group, a day isn't bad at all. With a group of beginners I started at 6am and got out a bit after dark. Not a one of them had ever climbed. We kept them moving though.

You've got a point there. I mean--where is the chest beating? Where is the self congratulation? Colin isn't even butting into somebody else's trip report to crow about his own. I agree with you, the idea that Colin soloed Mt Terror without spraying about it is just INCONCEIVABLE!

Thx for the article. That was a good read and quite inspirational. I'm just happy skiing rainier from the summit in a day, let alone climbing it 4-5 times.

best of cc.com [TR] Mt. Robson- North Face 8/14/2004
AllYouCanEat replied to Colin's topic in British Columbia/Canada
I found this portion written about the dude who first skied Robson exciting. This is from one of the links posted here earlier.................................. Chrzanowski and a Peruvian skier, Americo Tordoya, attempted a first-ski descent on 20,000-foot Mount Ranrapallca. The ascent went fine but a few turns into the ski descent, Chrzanowski lost an edge and cartwheeled 700 metres down the icy, steep pitch, landing in a shallow crevasse. He was barefoot because his boots and socks had been ripped off by the tumble. Tordoya found him, placed him in a sleeping bag and gave him tranquilizers. Chrzanowski dozed in and out of consciousness until rescued three days later. (Tordoya would die in an avalanche in 1983.) -

Why cast doubt on what has been done and worse yet on what can be done? Hell, people can accomplish some pretty amazing stuff! The Wonderland trail (93 miles, 20k+ vert) in a day and a minute for example. Did you ever meet Alex Lowe? Climb with Colin? Or push your own limits and see what you can do? I don't mean just once, but have an obsession. I've tried to hike the wonderland in a single push and failed every time. I don't say, "No way, I couldn't do it so no one else can." I said, "Right on!" and spent a miserable night sufficiently humbled. -
I wonder whose prosperity would be improving...the usual sources I assume .

I'm curious if anyone knows here whether or not the FS, county or state could restrict road building to a proposed Adams ski resort. If this were to occur it would be pretty hard to build a resort no one could logically get to...

[TR] Glacier Peak- Diasapoinment Peak and several glaciers 9/7/2004
AllYouCanEat replied to gearho's topic in North Cascades
Glacier peak is indeed a pretty remote area. I've hiked all the way around it and skied from the summit several times. Seeing your pictures, I'm kind've bummed I didn't get out there this year. Nice pics... -
Accident in Grand Teton NP - Local climber

Hello Dante, thanks for your heartfelt words! As a community here, it is nice to see the web of friendships and first person accounts of the people that knew Rodchester. For me it hits closer to home than some since I was part of a similar tragedy. Now almost a year later we are going to go spread his ashes in the mountains he loved, we all love and I'm sure like you we'll also tell plenty of good stories. -
I don't know why I'm posting this. I guess I'm just curious as to what all of you may think. Maybe I'm just way off base and access is not disappearing. What I would find interesting though is if some of the elder (umm more experienced) individuals here would like to make a comparison of today’s access as compared to 30 years ago and what you think the next 30 years have in store. Here are some examples I’ve seen lately of some current issues. Feel free to add any that you think would add to the discussion (please NOT about the fee demo). Thanks. If I’m just whining, I’m sure someone will let me know. -There's the crystal mountain issue that Lowell Skoog posted on several sites http://www.turns-all-year.com/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=ha1;action=display;num=1092696727 . - Then there is the Yosemite camp IV restrictions that DRU pointed out in another discussion http://cascadeclimbers.com/threadz/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB17&Number=389562#Post389603 . - On many rivers there are not only the threat of limitations on how many people can go down a river and what time of year, but new threats from micro damns http://americanwhitewater.org/archive/article/954/ . Finally, I know some of these are unavoidable and are a necessary evil (like maybe the canadian border issue and black helicopters). While others are a very real threat like micro damns.

Kayaking.peak.org This page puts up occasional updates. There's the washington kayak club also. You can look up the link in google. Not big but does have some info. There is the seattle kayaker group on yahoo also. American whitewater dot org (shown above) is another great page. It is nice to see the water going up. I haven't kayaked in a bit but I hope to hit some easier creeks soon. I keep getting reminders like this that stir up fond memories of the river.

That's impressive. I'm inspired with anyone who can push it that long, that fast. And how about the winner, 17hrs! Damn.
