  1. Cool. I was looking up there over the weekend and regretted not doing the same thing. Now seeing that you had good conditions, I'm really regretting it. When I did a day trip/ski like yours, I ended up skiing the worst snow I've ever skied. BTW, I have a good route photo for you from sunrise sunday. Let me know if you want it
  2. That Guinness shot is awesome! It was nice meeting you all. The ski down was incredible on day two. Fun stuff. I think this shot shows you guys at night. The lowest 3 dots are climbers. I think that this is your team or the other team in front of you. BTW great pictures. That alpenglow one you have is great. Here's one I took from the lake: Sorry my old man littered your climbing route with ski tracks and didn't bring you a beer. I'll have to teach him better etiquette
  3. I was on the Pearly Gates last weekend. What I saw were too many inexperienced climbers. Sometimes entire rope teams with maybe one experienced climber, many not even that. I waited and rested until most had come down. What I saw was disturbing. Climbers screaming from fear, shivering from it, and entirely gripped. To me this means that they shouldn’t be there. The slope is very moderate. An easy walk up and down as long as you know good crampon technique. Ninety percent of these people did not. There were teams that took over two hours to downclimb (all facing slope) a few hundred feet. This place will always be a scary place to be. The reason I was there was because I wanted to take a newby climber up, and it was on the way back from Smith. In the future I will look at other routes on Hood or on different mountains. The Hogsback is not a safe place to be this time of year.
  4. I have a recent photo but it's at home. That doesn't matter, because as long as you have basic glacier skills, you will be fine .
  5. You're on a roll dude. What a year for me to have knee troubles. Dang. At least I'm finally getting a chance to learn rock climbing, and to do some laid back stuff. I'm finding that both can be fun. At least I think so until I read your TR's or get the phone message. Ha. Classic.
  6. That's ah .... Burn Classic.
  7. I think the sunburn in the mouth is actually not a sunburn at all but dehydration. I could be wrong though.
  8. I now remember one story, after reading all of yours. My brother once forgot to put sunscreen on one ear. His ear was 3 times the normal size, and I do not kid. It was so bad that we called it the ONE-EAR Bigness Disease. The rest of his face didn't have so much as a tan, but that one ear...WOW!
  9. I was testing my knee out, deciding on an easy day up on the Muir Snowfields. I left my sunscreen. Today I am burned worse than I've been since I was a kid on Mount Hood. During that time I blistered really bad. Now I know that there are some good stories out there that are much better. Let's hear them. Maybe they'll make me feel better about my stupidity
  10. That's such a nice area. Wish that I were out there with you. I've always wanted to spend a few days out there in winter, but you can't beat a nice spring day either, especially 3 .
  11. http://www.turns-all-year.com/skiing_snowboarding/trip_reports/index.php?topic=4637.0 Have fun. I wish that I were up there today. Hell, I wish that I were anywhere today I didn't read the trip report, but it should have some info in it.
  12. I've done a lot of dumb things. The most recent was skiing off a constriction on the boulder-park cleaver. It was a wonderful day, the snow was great. A tee-shirt in august sort of day on a no brainer glacier after skiing the park hw. 3 of us skied through the constriction and off the edge with no check on speed. Lessons: -Don't haul too much ass on a glacier -It's great when you climb the route you skied, but try and remember what you climbed -carry bandages and pain pills -where a helmet. Don't leave it on your pack. The launch pad The landing zone Some blood
  13. Landry may have took 9 days, but don't doubt that it may not take as many as 9 day trips before you get good enough conditions to summit and ski. Landry came from out of state and skied a line that kicks ass in a style that says, "I'm here to do it, and I'm gonna do what it takes." While sky wakes up in the morning, looks at the mountain and says, "God damn, I'm gonna ski that bitch today!" Liberty was also teled in 83.
  14. Ah, I've been waiting for that sky. In some ways I wish I were there, and in some ways I was when looking out my window friday. Ha. I wish our attempt this winter would've went. Pow, pow would've been incredible, but you can't beat corn either. I just can't believe you joined us sunday after all that
  15. Way to ski Gib Chutes Loren. I was so close to heading up rainier, but decided on Logan instead. It looks like you had a great day.
  16. I'm not sure what Lowell did, but I'd be curious to hear about his trip. I know that he made a couple of traverses through the area (such a beautiful area for it), and I think he skied the Douglas.
  17. Gauthier's blog has some info on the accident. It sounds pretty amazing that Borgh's partner survived.
  18. Thanks for the great photo Sky! I'm glad I don't have to go back out there for awhile again. That approach is brutal, but the views made the effort worth the trouble. Now I just need to buy a stroller for those Monday approaches from the car to my desk. Ha.
  19. Shot, I'll give em credit. I was up there a few weeks before them and walked away due to 3ft of windslab at the schrund. Although I couldn't imagine taking 5 days, I guess I could begin too when I take into account their wallowing up the glacier without skis and the weather that week. Got to do what you got to do I guess.
  20. Awesome. That looks like a wonderful route. One of these days I'll have to get down there and ski some 14ers. Still too much work to do up here though
  21. It appears that these guys have done a great job for a long time and it is sad to see knowlegeable people and a good organization broken up. My hats off to them for doing an exceptional job for as long as they have, and in the future maybe they will restart it! Things change, as does the political environment.
  22. Awesome stuff. I love the shot that shows all of your turns down the Tenquille Glacier.
  23. Good stuff Ross. I know that you had tried that several times. Ha. I hate when that happens, but anything that comes too easy just ain't right. It makes me feel dirty. I need to try at least 3 times beforehand. By then I'm a bonified whore and it ain't so bad. On that note, way to ride 'er all the way down.
  24. Way to go Jens! I wish that I was there. Looks like fun.
