Cman, my experience with Baker is the exact oppisite of yours. As far as the skiing goes, I think you need to try the boulder-park cleaver cause baker deserves another shot, just make sure the weather is bomber before you go...

I'm not fat but my nickname is fatboy. I'm not exactly slow or fast. What I am, is a man willing to pay the pauper, which brings me to the subject at hand, "Single day pushes". What has been your experience with them? I sort of have a love/hate relationship; many of which have turned out to be some of the most satisfying trips I've been on. Why then do in one, what may be more enjoyable to do in three? Many of us are part of the working class; as such, must resort to the after work rush - the big push - to get any good lovin'. At least that is, to live up to your ever increasing aspirations and fit them in with the ever changing forecast and conditions. I remember a thread here called, “What in the cascades can’t be climbed in a day?” I guess this would be more like, “What have you done in a day, and what are your thoughts about it?” And, if you don't feel like chest beating, register under alias and beat away. Since I just got smacked down on a long push, I wanted to see what others have mustered the audacity to try. My feeling is that topping a ridge and going down the otherside beyond your average day trip, with little on your back, is exciting. Mount Olympus: This trip was great; the day was perfect and everything came together: the weather, timing and snow conditions. The trail makes for an easy approach, the mountain doesn’t offer difficulties beyond minor glacier travel and rock, pretty much rewarding you with a little bit of everything from jungle to glacier. As the big push goes, this would be something that I would do again.

One more: I had just finished a long section of whitewater. This was my first time on the upper, upper cispus and I was having a blast, except for the fact that there was a mandatory 30ft falls downstream. I was the first one to climb onto the ledge and get a look. It was all that I had expected. I was excited and scared. Just then the last boater gets out and the boats start to tumble. Two hit the drink and only one is caught. Meanwhile mine takes a solo run over the falls. There is no way for me to climb out. My only option is to swim. With a huge hole (or keeper) and a quarter mile of class V below me, I was not looking forward to the swim. This moment sticks out as a pretty shitty one in my book.

What is your worst moment in climbing, skiing, kayaking, hiking etc (well, it doesn't have to be the worst. At least the best story)? The where doesn't matter but the situation does. For instance, we are 17 miles off track in the pouring rain with no shoes. Instead our ski boots are eating up the pavement. It was half an hour from dark and we didn't know where our car was. What happened? A car eventually passed by and we begged for a ride.

I was just up in the Monte Cristo area this weekend. The snow is very sloppy, so if you plan on climbing something steep, your apt to be wallowing rather than climbing. Either of the wilman's spires looked like good climbing if that's your thing.

Go for it jim. There is an easy approach and it is one of the most popular ski destinations in the cascade pass area. That doesn't mean it is exceptional, but it isn't bad. FYI There is plenty of skiing to be had off the backside of Hidden Lake Peaks. I would go to the top of the tallest one, ski back down the ridge a bit, then down and around the mtn down to hidden lake, climb back to the pass below the peak and go home. Go get it!

I'm not sure if this has been done, but it may be interesting. What is the mountain that you have attempted the most? Now these aren't always the most difficult. I once met a guy who turned around for the 7th time on Shuksan. It took me 4 tries before I got it right! After that first one, I tagged the summit the next 4 out of 6.

My english teacher was quite sane. Get a red pen and I think you'll be just fine. Better yet, buy a whole package...splurge a little.

Aside from all the ethical and religious view points. Who here would want to be kept alive? I think that this is the most important question. Simply, "What would she want?" Obviously there is a difference in opinion between the parants and husband. The courts have debated and decided (as far as I know). My pickle with this whole scenario is the government imposing on what is a court matter. From what I can tell, kurt is the lawyer of the bunch (just guessing here). Is this common and in your opinion appropriate.

I was up there the weekend before last and was able to drive to the end of the road. I don't think that you can now since it has snowed a bit. At worst you have several miles of road ~1-2hrs extra timewise. Bring skis and go have fun.

On a blue bird powder day, place a bunch of skiers at the bottom of the mountain and see who can fill their sock door the quickest. The winner gets to ski it while the others have to watch. The first one to whine, losses...

I agree!!! Sky, my brother and I just skied/climbed Blum in a day on Sunday (as near as we could. We didn't tag the true, true summit though, but it wasn't skiable via our route). And here I thought that it was an easy mtn. I was humbled. There is nothing like schwacking 5k of pure north cascades forest in the dark, in the rain, in the fog, in the winter. I love that boulder field! I remember once when I was in the picketts I fell into about an 8ft hole with a full pack and skis. BTW, I couldn't imagine huffing up that boulder field without skis.

Umm, yea, that could suck. Maybe as soon as I quit my job you can buy me a beer then (I don't drink, so you would have to sit and watch a cold beer go warm but I'm not one too say no. It's the thought that counts).
