-
Hey jordop let's go! I'll hold you up to that beer Dru.
-
Man that looks like a fun ski. How far is that from seattle?
-
Oh yea, mini ice age. Ha. That won't be so bad. All the crags will get buried and I'll be able to ski them ...
-
And even worse than that (sniffle, sniffle), what is going down is what you attempted the week before (thus its on the top of your list) only to be rewarded with a cold night in a cave, a look from the base and a long wet hike out.
-
...to know that right now, this second a climb you really want to do is going down. You look outside and you think, "Man it's nice." But you're sitting here on cc.com at work, not working and wishing you were there.
-
Dude, phil/dave you should have skied that. I will but you have to let me use the mobile either that or help me lose my job. Hmm? Do you want to do alpental on sunday?

[TR] Cascade Peak- South Side via C-J Col 12/22/2004
AllYouCanEat replied to DPS's topic in North Cascades
So your's were the boot tracks that covered my nice skin track, eh? You are lucky you were not up there on friday also. Think rain and 100ft visibility. It makes getting down interesting. The conditions were good, more snow than we thought, still not as much as there could be. Everytime I go up there I am humbled. -

So...um where's mount rexford? I've got a feeling it's in canada She's probably as flat as a board And likes nuts and bananas I'm also sure if dru has been up there he wouldn't tell you about his goat named "Claire" So if you want sex more Don’t go to mount Rexford You may see wildlife sure But no blond hair and harpsichord

Mount Shuksan I called this mountain Mount Sucksan Because I couldn’t reach the top “Where’s my purple soda pop?” First I tried the shuksan arm It only gave me harm With storm and snow “Where do I go?” Then comes memorial weekend Three days, I’m freakin’ Let’s go climb the west face I’ll keep the pace We leave early Boy this is burly I can’t ski this It’s craziness We reach the sulfide I’m out of my mind Big pillow clouds “Kiss my behind!” So finally I sulk up the easy way Too good and great I’d say Standing on the top Drinking my purple soda pop I snap on my skis and do as I please streakin' down her pyrimid feelin' good not suckin big ...mount shuksan

"Mount Degenhardt" Dragonheart slayers We are off to dance with thy lady Is she all we dreamed of or a Warren Baity? So glistens her bosom of pompas and glory and trumphets blare her presence comith to us and tales are told amid drinks so bold, a ballad to brutes sitting upon thrones of wormed wood and living in dreams of the highest degree We are off to our land of oz and upith the yellow brick road we depart No demons or dragons, angels or ghosts will steer us - because! There is not a wise man a dozen only a fool each of us at heart dancing all the way to the land of dragonheart...

I've been around rainier a fair bit in winter. There are no guarantees. It could go easy, it could go bad. If you are really looking for a great winter climb try mount baker via any route. Out of a 12 or so trys I have only walked away twice. Here is a TR from a few years back that will give you a good idea of what a winter ascent in good conditions is like on rainier(and what could go wrong) Rainier Climb

If you already downhill then AT is a great way to go. The gear is lighter, easier on the legs, not to mention the free range of movement during skinning that tele lacks (mentioned above). All told, AT is a great way to start in the BC for those very reasons. If in the future you want to try and learn another turn, then try tele. Try Snowboarding. Try whatever they come up with next. The above challenges can always be overcome with a mixture of skill and strength. I take some of my sports degenerative flaws (that’s umm tele BTW) as a way to spice up the challenge, the rest I save as a valid excuse as to why I am lagging at the rear of the group.

Right on! I was just up on the northside and it reminded me again why I love the place and how they could make such a negative monetary decision for the sake of the environment, natural beauty and beliefs.

Oh man. Wow, this is where I grew up. I once kayaked the very tail end of wallanding into the N fork tilton. Cool. I always wanted to see further up into the canyon that seems to be present on the creek from the topo, but never got back to see for myself. When I'm back at the homestead, I'll have to get up there...

The adams glacier looked like it would go. You could even shoot for the NFNWR. It looked good. The only considerations I would have would be lightly covered cracks and avi conditions. Otherwise I was surprised to see how well things were setting in (really hard snow though). You may have to get a bit inventive on the Adams, but it should go. Also FYI, the road will only be passible until the next snow storm more than likely. As soon as that happens it's a 8+ mile trudge to the trailhead from the horse camp.

Awesome writing! It makes me feel young -
When I think of must skis, I'm thinking of something I would do over and over and over and enjoy it every time. Of course I was more inclined towards the steep rather than more moderate routes or traverses. If those were the case, from my personal experiences I would pick these: 1. The Nooksack Traverse (access, diversity, summits and views and anything else you would or could hope for) 2. Goat Rocks Traverse (the lack of crowds, plenty of great summits close together, and great spring snow) 3. Old Snowy, Goat Rocks (Same reasons as above) 4. Mount Challenger (the glacier, the scenic hike, and views of the picketts can't be beat) 5. Lake Ann and Han Buttes, Mount Shuksan (for the great snow that seems to be harbored there from any ill weather, views of shuksan and baker, and quick escape from the ski area for a day or two)

Ha. Ha. I was gonna say the same thing lowell. This isn't a trip I would do, but (shrug) she did ask.

Do a search on the net. There is a lot of info. The glacier between Ruth and Icy may offer some challenge. Other than that it is about 7 miles or so to the top of ruth. That's a great october trip. You'll have to determine if icy is a go from there. Expect some choss and glacier travel from there...

Here is a great couloir that you need to ski if you are up there. We'd been up in the goat rocks countless times and never noticed this nugget of gold. It was beautiful and actually had another dogleg that you can't see in the first pic. This couloir was a lot like slot couloir on snoqualmie for steepness and length. Pics by benman

I have changed my mind on one of my pics. Sky sent me a link of the northwest face of luna peak that we skied a few years ago. It brought back fond memories of a spectacular ski. http://www.pbase.com/nolock/image/35445008
