Stefan Posted August 28, 2001 Posted August 28, 2001 I like the topic. I did all three Wilman's Spires this weekend. Recommendation: Do not come down or up the west ridge after all the snow has melted--you will encounter lots of brush. Quote
Alex Posted August 28, 2001 Posted August 28, 2001 what I am waiting to see is who on this thread gets the Chestbeater of the Month award. I stayed home, wired some electrical outlets, painted some drywall in the basement, blew a couple of breakers, went on a Home Depot spree, drank 1 beer... Alex Quote

I didn't flash any alpine routes, just climbed at Index, so boooring, and was thinking about the computers all the time... Quote
Pencil_Pusher Posted August 28, 2001 Posted August 28, 2001 Philfort almost met Pencil Pusher and crew headed up a variation of the West Face, Sloan Peak. Great exposure, awesome weather. Quote
Charlie Posted August 28, 2001 Posted August 28, 2001 Climbed Town crier with PNW legend "Big Joe" had the route to ourselves. He only let me lead the chimney and triple overhang (what a bully) We never found the 150' rap. - followed a trail that took us all the way to the ground? Quote
Bob_Clarke Posted August 28, 2001 Posted August 28, 2001 Charlie..you and "PNW Big Joe" Are the Man. Quote
jblakley Posted August 28, 2001 Posted August 28, 2001 Charlie, You climbed with "Big Joe"? Dewd that must have been bordering on the religious! Is it true that he fashions all of his aid pieces from used auto parts? Good job guys! Quote
Doug Posted August 29, 2001 Posted August 29, 2001 Did some cragging at Peshastin on Friday, attended my in-laws 50th anniversary party on Saturday, went to a wedding on Sunday where I engaged an interesting chap in a conversation regarding a genre of Rock Music from the 80's. Anyone ever heard of "Butt Rock"? It is allegedly a stle of music played by "hair bands". It can still be heard blaring from speakers in the backs of Camaros on 196th and Hwy. 99 in Lynnwood. Anyone ever hear of such a style? Underlying everything was a strong yet unspoken desire to be at Index with local PNW legends "Big Joe" and his loyal partner "The Rock" Charlie. It isn't so much that Joe makes his pro from just used auto parts. We're talking old Chevy Vega engine blocks for stoppers and 1952 Ford Milk Truck Leaf Springs for active protection. Big Joe is the man! Quote
Zee Posted August 29, 2001 Posted August 29, 2001 Did Frostbite Ridge on Glacier Peak. Awesome climb with no one around! Alot of traversing, up & down, 3 short pitches of alpine ice (45-50 degrees) and one full pitcj of the best alpine ice (60-70 degrees) I've ever climbed- better than the ice on North face of Athabasca. Great route. If anyone wants beta on it let me know! Quote
highclimb Posted August 29, 2001 Posted August 29, 2001 i did the tooth on sunday. brought my brother up his first alpine climb and it was new to my dad to so we had a nice family outing. Blister, if you get a weekend off give me a shout to go climbing! Aidan Quote
Beck Posted August 29, 2001 Posted August 29, 2001 Worked saturday, went sunday with an Aussie buddy of mine to mess around on Nason Ridge. Thought we'd get some nice scramble variety on a rock called appropriately, Rock Mountain, but there was only some nice scrambling on the ridge itself. Nice long training , 12+miles 4000 vert to 6800 ft and great views, yelled at mother nature, then went down to Leavenworth for free pool and flirting with the local ladies. Quote
chris_w Posted August 29, 2001 Posted August 29, 2001 Tuesday I did the tooth. one other party and we had the summit to ourselves for an hour. Beatiful and warm day. I got a little sunburn, but it was worth it. I know Tuesday isn't part of the weekend, but I had a 4 day weekend, so it was for me Quote

Marcus_Engley Posted August 29, 2001 Posted August 29, 2001 Planned on checking out the stuff at New Halem, but instead spent both days putting up a wall in the garage... woohoo! Quote
nolanr Posted August 30, 2001 Posted August 30, 2001 Butt rock, heard of it, I think it's anything Beavis and Butthead would've listened to. Lynnwood would probably be a prime place to still hear some of it. Quote
dbb Posted August 30, 2001 Posted August 30, 2001 N. Ridge of Stuart, decently warm bivi on the summit with no bag. Quote
na Posted August 30, 2001 Posted August 30, 2001 SW Rib of SEWS - Lotsa fun. The 'bear hug" pitch is amusing. Saw goat and kids. Actually two types of kids. There was a party of about twenty on the S. Arete. High school girl soccer team from Mt. Vernon. Quote
