pink Posted January 14, 2011 Share Posted January 14, 2011 (edited) so my health insurance just went up almost $90 this last month. this is the 3rd time my insurance has gonna up since obama was elected and according to my insurance company it's not over. i guess i'll work one more day a week, oh shit!!! there's only 7 day's in a week. i have one thing to say, and i'll be done. Work finally dropped health care as a benefit (very small non-profit). I was on an individual plan and this year my premium went DOWN by $11 (Regence). If they hadn't denied me the bill would be over $500/month. I applied to the state health care plan and was denied because I have over 2k in savings. A friend told me to just reapply and lie on the application because an inside state source told him they never check up on the accuracy of applications. Â I'm unemployed, 55, and living off my savings; about a years wages. I don't see many people my age getting hired lately, but I personally haven't even tried. For example: a friend my age applied at a big box distribution center that just opened here recently. They posted a picture of all the new hires. He said all the new hires looked to be really young. Â I just can't bring myself to scam health care. I want to apply some logic into my thinking to justify scamming it but I can't come up with any ethical reason--I guess I will go broke first. Supposedly there are a lot of people only a months savings away from being broke. Most of the 6 billion people do not have health insurance; some people say what does that have to do it. Â Recent reported profits are bigger than ever in the financial sector but not in others. This is pretty interesting considering the USA is broke. I'm guessing the financial sector CEO's must have some really big tax loopholes. Â Wikipedia: Among these organizations are banks, credit card companies, insurance companies, consumer finance companies, stock brokerages, investment funds and some government sponsored enterprises. As of 2004, the financial services industry represented 20% of the market capitalization of the S&P 500 in the United States.[1] Â I can't say I know much about the financial sector other than they seem to be good at scamming. They have big brains and make money off those they can scam it off of; fair enough I guess. Â The health industry seems to be just that, an industry. They have CEO's that could give a fart about health. Personally I have experienced good and bad medicine being practiced over the years; maybe you can relate. The industry places quotas on doctors which appears to me to be a direct conflict of interest. However, they state that this isn't a function so much of Obama, but of rising health care costs in general over the last ten years combined with the tough reality of the current economy. They've also been making cuts in other areas. Â However, they will still be quite good, and some might argue that for better or worse they will be a more realistic and reflective view of the modern state of our healthcare system.
