I'm writing, or rather bitching, about the amount of chatroom style messages I see on this site. I use this site from time to time to check on ice conditions and route reports, and more than half the messages I see are crap. I think the people on cascade who work on a computer all day long and have nothing better to do should fire up there own chatroom and bullshit to each other. I hear messenger is good for this. I have a slow computer at home 28.8 and it takes me a while to download a page, and then i still have to sift through all the off topic messages to find what I want. I doubt this will affect the "spray" seen on cascade, I just wish people would use this site for it's intended use. For climbers, ABOUT CLIMBING!!!!!!!!!!!

Dont forget about 50% of some peoples climbing is about communicating and experiencing with others. Sharing these experiences whether they are humorous or inconsequential to you may nnot matter to them.

Brody,

I feel your pain...

However, this is a public forum and since that is the case, you get what you pay for. Your request is likened to writing a letter to the editor of a newspaper asking everyone to drive a certain speed on the freeway or vote a certain way. You can certainly make the request, but it is a futile one for sure.

So upgrade man, shit you can get a modem for $50, or just go to cable or dsl, you can get a DOS box running at a gig for $500. Your outdated equipment is not something that pulls at my heart strings. The jerkies (like me) clogging up this site are also the ones giving you the beta you seem to desire. Can't afford it? Go to the library, they've got decent equipment. Buck-up pahdna

wow. i sure didn'tmean to piss everyone off.i like the stories about climbing and the commmunticating, but most of the posted material isnt' that. today i read a list of people talking about some army of darkness movie. it's quite obvious many people on this site are friends. why not use email or somehting. and no i haven't contributed much, most of my climbing is done in the can. rockies or alaska, and doesn't relate to this area.to capt caveman and everyone else who pounced on my post within the hour. i appreciate your input but you proved me right.

if anyone has anything to say other than attacks, please post. maybe a solution, like an ongoing chatroom.

I think the solution is to realize that this site is what it is. It is not the ideal website that exists only in your head.

Your ongoing chatroom idea is perhaps the solution. You need to realize that CC.com is that chatroom.

To get your ideal website, I would suggest creating one of your own. That might work. It might not. I somehow think that the creators of this site did not envision the current state of affairs as their goal when they first started out.

FWIW, I was initially disappointed with the "chatroom" nature of this site. But I got over it. Obviously, bitching to people that don't owe you squatis not going to change anything. Paradoxically, it will only add to the clutter of the board with many retorts replete with little round guys showing you their asses.

Your vote has been recorded. Please move on.

Anyone been following the stock market? Its looks like Amazon.com has seen the last of its burst of success. General Electric and Wall-mart are still good choices, rising slowly but surely. I got the new Abercrombie and Fitch catalog in the mail- I really like their new spring swimsuit line.Anybody get their REI dividend yet? How about the commercials during the superbowl- which was your favorite?

When I first started using this site, i thought it would be exactly like what you seem to want it to be....a site to trage conditions and beta. When people started posting bullshit, I started a now infamous thread named "Spray Detracts From This Site" (go look it up), hoping that others would see the world as I wanted it to be.

Lots of people flamed me, but a few, not the least being ultra-sray KING Dru, offered some useful suggestions, reiterated to some extent in this thread:

Its not about using the site at all, its about how you use it. Consider changing your entry point (as Capt Cavement suggested) to a forum like "ice reports" that is really dedicated to conditions and beta, rather than just the Climbers Wall. Consider other options on the internet, like CASBC or the rock and ice sites for ice climbing conditions in the rockies.

You will be insulated from the BS, and then can go to various area-specific forums, or do searches, or post questions as you see fit. In general you will spend less time, and less time wasted, here, but will enjoy it more...

The climbers wall, and this site in general, has very little to do with climbing, it has to do with 95.6% of us working 5 days a week near machines with internet access.

Hope this helps,

Alex
