John Frieh Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Trip: Hyalite - The Days of Jack Date: 3/25/2010 Trip Report: Thanks largely in part to the Family Leave Act of 1993 I loaded up my new and improved family and headed to Bozeman to enjoy some late season ice climbing before they closed the road. Some pics: First Taco Bus: Dillon, MT Dribbles with Drew: climbers right of the kayaker finish I wear a diaper under my action suit so I dont have to stop to pee because I am so light and fast! AlpineStyle4life! First Open Bivy at 9 week old Wall Things Half Bag = old school hardman points Mom off the couch out of the delivery room Ran into Donn and Rodney @ the Royal 7 (but of course!); they were gracious enough to let me tag along one day and shoot pics! Donn likes them apples Rodney likes them apples too The red pill or the blue pill? Rodney on the Matrix Upon retirement most gentlemen relocate to warmer places and take up shuffleboard or golf. Or sit around and bitch on the internet about "the good old days of climbing" Not Donn. Bonus points for blood Load it up! See you guys on the road! Approach Notes: zoom zoom P.S. It would appear you cant post TRs in the kids forum... Quote
Pilchuck71 Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Right on John. As a father to be I find this post quite inspiring! Thanks for sharing and kudos to the hard man 9 week old in the open bivy. Love that! Quote
cbcbd Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Just awesome! What a happy kid. Congrats and rock on! Quote
billcoe Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Love the lil Patagonia ruggermatic he's wearing.... So cool you guys are getting out! I was doing rental houses back then, remember propping my daughter (now 24 years old!) in a bassinet in the corner so I could paint, much better to get the lil one outside. Quote
John Frieh Posted April 7, 2010 Author Posted April 7, 2010 That's his action suit Bill! Or as I call it "the poop sack" We're still doing rentals too... we just havent included him in our slum lord activities... yet Quote
YocumRidge Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Nice! What tools are you getting him John? Quote
John Frieh Posted April 8, 2010 Author Posted April 8, 2010 What tools are you getting him John? I'm hoping he has the sense to pursue something else but if he does decide to give it a go Ill likely start him on the lightest shortest tool they make... I believe Grivel makes a lil'monster that would be appropriate Quote
Dane Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 How many of us start out with a $500 bivy/belay jacket? Jack obviously knows how to sort his gear already! The mutant at an early age...he won't require tools! Quote
BigSky Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 Awesome, way to get it done. Matrix/Cave&Gully is one of the cooler looking slots on that side of the canyon in my opinion. Quote
t_rutl Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 nice work J! he'll be sending 5's in his Pampers... Quote
miker Posted April 8, 2010 Posted April 8, 2010 Good stuff daddy-o. Motivates me to get my kids out into the chit. Quote
moira armen Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 Wow, what a super cute and happy baby! I'm jealous, I wish my parents would have taken me ice climbing! Quote
pink_chalk Posted May 23, 2010 Posted May 23, 2010 Great TR John!! Your son is adorable - so happy! Us bottom dwellers at Albina Press had noticed the Frieh family was MIA.... figured as much Shannon is definitely a super-mom! Quote
spionin Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 found this picture in a norwegian climbing guidebook - thought you'd appreciate! Quote
John Frieh Posted March 15, 2011 Author Posted March 15, 2011 :laf: Awesome! We actually considering bring the B.O.B. on that trip but dont have a ski attachment so we opted for the carry. Quote
