wayne Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 So, you think its good? Mostly just the intro . Quote
Pete_H Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 We should give Mike some prop's over on the Taco so as to get some Californicans interested: http://www.supertopo.com/climbers-forum/991784/new_climbing_book Quote
skyclimb Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 I had the opportunity to look this book over recently, and it is a pretty amazing piece of work. It is very useful for rehabing injuries, or strenthening specific muscles for climbing, along with useful tricks of the trade. One thing you should add in the next edition Layton, is the management of the "Bivy Kit", and keeping sleeping pills seperated from pain killers....LOL Quote
jordop Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 Wow, a Doctorb and now a writter!! Mike, be sure to get MEC to stock it -- or maybe you already have. Quote
G-spotter Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 MEC carries book nowadays? I doubt it. They decided books were non-core items Quote
pope Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 Looks pretty good. Probably have to snag a copy so I can get up Chair Peak without biv gear. But seriously, why did you include info on bolting? Some kind of sales-boost strategy? Quote
layton Posted October 23, 2009 Author Posted October 23, 2009 I included info on bolting because there is not a book on it and people should know how to do it correctly. I bet you would approve actually. Quote
G-spotter Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 What kind of self-publish deal is it Mike? like p.o.d. or did you have to get a huge load printed at once and stored in your spare bedroom until they sell? How many do you have to sell to break even? Quote
layton Posted October 23, 2009 Author Posted October 23, 2009 It's print on demand, but I have to buy ~100 at a time to give to distributers for stores. Quote
Mtguide Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 Looking over the finished product, I am awed, Mike. Absolutely smashing. Thanks so much for inviting me to contribute to it, I'm honored to have had a small part in it. Quote
layton Posted October 23, 2009 Author Posted October 23, 2009 books I owe people should be shipped in a couple weeks Quote
pope Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 I included info on bolting because there is not a book on it and people should know how to do it correctly. I bet you would approve actually. Just send me a copy and I'll offer an honest opinion. If my review is favorable, you can use my name for promotional purposes. Quote
foraker Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 Nice job, Mike. I'll have the wife pick up a copy when she's back in the US next May. Quote
tomtom Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 What kind of self-publish deal is it Mike? Vanity press. Quote
musky333 Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 Mine came already. Damn, that was fast. Quote
Bug Posted October 28, 2009 Posted October 28, 2009 Mine just arrived. I read the "Praise" section by a bunch of really famous climbers and got all fired up. I went out and ran 12 miles with big hills and pulled a hamstring. F.... you Mike! This is your fault! Just kidding. No injuries yet. Quote
layton Posted October 29, 2009 Author Posted October 29, 2009 go to chapter two! and sorry there are a few typos in the book - not having an editor (major $$) except for the paper clip guy. Quote
Bug Posted October 29, 2009 Posted October 29, 2009 I had my wife review the exercises in your book last night. She has been a physical therapist for 31 years. She gives you an excellent review! Cheers. Quote

Kat_Roslyn Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 Is the "marrital aid" chapter a supplement or does that come with the original version? Quote
EWolfe Posted October 30, 2009 Posted October 30, 2009 I linked it to Supertopo cuz I didn't see Mikey's original post... But Donini was the first to respond... shameless plug Quote
