KaskadskyjKozak Posted January 24, 2008 Author Posted January 24, 2008 And apparently May/June is the earliest they'll be able to do this. Really? Â LOL. Â My poll was motivated by this: Â ""This package has the right set of policies and is the right size," Bush said Thursday. "The incentives in this package will lead to higher consumer spending and increased business investment this year."" Â Do we really need to encourage more consumer spending/consumerism in this cuntry? Â Quote

kevbone Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 If they want to stimulate the economy…..try getting out of the current Iraq occupation that costs 12 billion a month and put that money towards jobs and health care and education and getting this country off coal. Quote
KaskadskyjKozak Posted January 24, 2008 Author Posted January 24, 2008 Â well my last two bottles (and first two) were Glenlivet 15 French Oak and Laphroaig 15, so there's a lot of ground to cover in between. Â Quote

jon Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 Shouldn't this be called the 75 million dollar overseas stimulus package instead of the 100 million dollar domestic stimulus package? JayB? Quote

Weekend_Climberz Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 If you are getting a rebate, you should spend it on taking an economics class. Â Don't ever, ever, ever give the gov't an interest free loan. Not ever. so do you bump up your exemptions to cover even your mortgage interest deduction?Absolutely. Jim Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 "Sources on Capitol Hill and at the Treasury Department said the plan would send checks of $600 to individuals and $1,200 to couples who paid income tax and who filed jointly. Â People who did not pay federal income taxes but who had earned income of more than $3,000 would get checks of $300 per individual or $600 per couple. Â A Democratic aide and Republican aide said there will be an additional amount per child, which could be in the neighborhood of $300. Â Those who earn up to $75,000 individually or up to $150,000 as a couple will be eligible for the payments, said Republican and Democratic sources familiar with the tentative deal." Â Continuing the excellect fiscal conservatisim trend. Man. Can't blame this one soley on Bush - though I would feel much more comfortable with such a stimulus if our fiscal condition wasn't in the toilet. Some recent news from the CBO: Â We're spending $20 billion a month combined on Iraq and Afganistan - not counting things like medical help at home for the wounded, lost wages, etc. Â Our unfunded commitments for domestic spending through 2025 doubled from 2000 thru 2007, thanks to hair-brained bills like the Rebublican Medicare bill and tax cuts. Â Moodys Investment Corp. has warned the US that they may drop the US T-bill rating from AAA to AA, which would be unprecedented and investors would demand higher rates. Good luck as the Fed is madly dropping the Fed rate to flag the sagging economy. Â Â Â Quote
ZimZam Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 They are going to give us money that they don't have, so we can buy overseas products. How will that stimulate the economy? I think it's all a bunch of BS to appease the American electorate. I don't see how this stimulates anything. Quote

ClimbingPanther Posted January 24, 2008 Posted January 24, 2008 yeah, seems like it only makes things worse in the big picture. good thing it's bipartisan, so we know Rep's & Dem's are both unified in the quest to destroy our economy. Quote
Recycled Posted January 25, 2008 Posted January 25, 2008 It doesn't stimulate anything. They are desparately trying to boost consumer confidence. I don't believe people are so easily fooled, but maybe they are... Quote
