Blake Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 (edited) How about this dude That was New Zealand's hardest sport climb for 15 years, and was just repeated this fall. I think I like the Fila better. Edited December 14, 2007 by Blake Quote
archenemy Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 (edited) You've got to take in consideration the cultural context of the time: Nice bullseye right over that woman's crotch. Very subtle. Edited December 14, 2007 by archenemy Quote
archenemy Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Stink lines, bullseye, same thing for the straight guy. Quote

denalidave Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Consider the "hard" "man" source of this thread: Cotton Rules,or was that kills? Great thread, love the pics! Quote
tvashtarkatena Posted December 14, 2007 Author Posted December 14, 2007 (edited) Microfibre dude. This shirt comes in white, too. You gotta love that the guy who's posted this pic about 15 times now is barely squeeking through the Intermediate Course. Every time he posts it it reminds me of how sweet the NE Butt of Goode was. Let me know if you have any interest in borrowing it and you are more than welcome to snag it next time you are across teh border. Quote
builder206 Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Article: NASA Releases E-Mail in Astronaut Case “…Meanwhile, Commander Oefelein’s relationship with Captain Shipman was developing. In late January, Commander Oefelein invited her on a trip his shuttle crew was taking to his home state, Alaska, and said he had been asked about her clothing size for arctic gear. “ ‘I think I can figure that out,’ he wrote. ‘Sized sexy and athletic.’ “ http://www.nytimes.com/2007/12/14/us/14astro.html?_r=1&ref=us&oref=slogin Verr nice! Blake Posted December 14, 2007 Posted December 14, 2007 Maybe someone with more experience can fill me in: What was the supposed advantage or reason for knickers? why would climbers in cold places want pants that stopped at the knee? Usually goofy-looking clothes have some functional advantage. Quote
tvashtarkatena Posted December 15, 2007 Author Posted December 15, 2007 (edited) Freedom of movement, a little weight savings (some knickers were cotton...the bottom leg of the pant would just get wet, heavy, and cold anyway, others were heavy wool: cutting off the calf saved significant weight), and heat dissipation, mostly. I 'knickerize' my pants a fair bit of the time. Note the thick wooly knee socks...I don't think anybody got too much colder back then for lack of long pants.
