Wakaranai
Porter- You wont remember me but at the rope up I won some chalk like stuff in the raffle. Upon first inspection it appeared that a dirty hippie had cut off a tube sock and put his grandmas dead ashes in it and called it chalk. I have to admit that I was a little hesitant to take a dip at first, but when I finally did I found that it worked really well and it didnt mark the rock up either. Anyhow, I discarded the wrapper and didnt know the name of the stuff or where to get it. Perhaps the hippie who makes it has some more relatives, umm, stuff they want to sell. Thanks, Brandon Edited October 24, 2007 by Wakaranai
Dannible
That gives me an idea. If you used a better climbers ashes as chalk would it make you a better climber? Hell of a way to honor your fallen partners.
dan_forester
Keith Richards would do it for sure.

mattp
You can refill at the top of the Summit Wall at Mt. Erie. Somebody dumped out their relative's ashes up there, and didn't do much to sprinkle them around.

Bug
I used to find super-fine dust (wind deposits) in the dry creek beds in Indian canyon and mix it with chalk. It worked really well. And I didn't have to kill anybody or fuss with all that cooking.

olyclimber
Glad that stuff worked out for you! I would not recommend freebasing it. However, you can pick up EcoHippie Chalk at one of our sponsors! Metolius EcoBall Chalk

JosephH
I do rarely on occasion use chalk, when I do I use the gray stuff from REI.

G-spotter
If the chalk colour matches the rock, how do you see your tick marks?
JosephH
The trouble isn't seeing the tick marks. I'm so inept with any color of chalk I always end up looking like the Pillsbury doughboy no matter how little I use - just opening the bag is a high risk venture. With the brown stuff do you look like Eddie Murphy?
