ericb Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Are you kidding me?....Vick not necessarily guilty??? http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/football/2020AP_FBN_Vick_NAACP.html An NAACP leader said Michael Vick should be allowed to return to the NFL, preferably the Atlanta Falcons, after serving his sentence for his role in a dogfighting operation. "As a society, we should aid in his rehabilitation and welcome a new Michael Vick back into the community without a permanent loss of his career in football," said R.L. White, president of the group's Atlanta chapter. "We further ask the NFL, Falcons, and the sponsors not to permanently ban Mr. Vick from his ability to bring hours of enjoyment to fans all over this country."...... White said the Atlanta chapter supports Vick's decision to accept a plea bargain if it's in his best interest, but he questioned the credibility of Vick's co-defendants, saying an admission of guilt might be more about cutting losses than the truth. "At this point, you're not looking at guilt or innocence," White said, referring to the possible harsher sentence Vick could have received had he taken his case to trial and been found guilty. "You're thinking, 'What I better do is cut my losses and take a plea.' But if he saw this as the best thing to do at this Quote
DRep Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Yeah, im pretty pissed off about the whole situation too!!! but after Vick is released from prison, he will need to get a job just like any other ex-con. the only rule he broke under the NFL's charter is gambling. I think he should be punished for the animal cruelty by the law, the NFL should punish him for the gambling. Quote
fenderfour Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Like it or not, Vick is part of a brand. That brand is the NFL and the team he played for. They have a business plan and marketing to think about before letting Vick back. Abusing animals is way bad PR. THere really aren't many worse options. Pedohpilia, robbing old people... Quote
motomagik Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 That "He was forced to take the plea deal and plead guilty argument" is the biggest load of shit ever. The fool is guilty, despicable, completely sick, and should be banned from the NFL for life. The fact that this is even a question is totally ridiculous. Quote
lizard_brain Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 I don't think he'll be 'banned' from the NFL in any official way, but I doubt any team will hire him after that. Quote
ericb Posted August 22, 2007 Author Posted August 22, 2007 "White said he does not support dogfighting and that he considers it as bad as hunting. "His crime is, it was a dog," White said. No different than hunting.....I have many friends that finish off their stag with electrocution rather waste another bullet.... Quote
lizard_brain Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 ...I have many friends that finish off their stag with electrocution rather waste another bullet.... I laughed like hell when I read that... Quote
kevbone Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 He is a sick bitch and should never be able to play football again. Quote

Attaching electrodes to tongue & testicles sounds more like a dirty game than a method of electrocution... Quote
ClimbingPanther Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 He is a sick bitch and should never be able to play football again. if you go by the "human animal" doctrine, kevbone's posts could be considered equally cruel to us. he should never be able to post again. Quote
goatboy Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 If playing ball is what matters most to him, then he should be allowed to do so....after agreeing to give 80% of his income to animal shelters. If getting rich and living the NBA lifestyle is what he cares about, then he should not be allowed to return. Quote
underworld Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 guilty w/o a trial.... are we this quick to judge on other cases.... Quote
tvashtarkatena Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 One word: Guantanamo. Vick is pleading guilty to a plea bargain, not being 'proven guilty without a trial'. He could have had his day in court had he wanted it. He, not the state, chose not to. Quote
motomagik Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 If playing ball is what matters most to him, then he should be allowed to do so. Maybe he should have thought of how much he liked playing football before he took up torturing dogs as a hobby? Who the hell cares what matters to him? Quote

He could have had his day in court had he wanted it. He, not the state, chose not to. But according to the NAACP, he's not necessarily guilty, and only guilty of hunting the wrong animal..... Quote
ClimbingPanther Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 If only he had his wits about him, he could have eaten the dogs and been just fine Quote
tvashtarkatena Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 I think the NAACP could use a little tightening of their organizational message...whatever that is these days. Quote

underworld Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 One word: Guantanamo. so for consistancy sake - do you wanna let vick go or keep the gitmos locked up?? Quote
Stefan Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 Everyone has the chance to do what they want after they have served their punishment. Unfortunately for him, the issue with the NFL really is not the dogfighting...it is the gambling. Which is sad to say that gambling has more precedent over dogfighting... Quote
tvashtarkatena Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 One word: Guantanamo. so for consistancy sake - do you wanna let vick go or keep the gitmos locked up?? For decency's sake - everyone should get their day in court to determine guilt or innocence. That's a basic human rights principle that the U.S. has shamefully ignored with regards to its detainees in the War on Terror. Vick, by his own admission, is guilty and therefore subject to punishment. The detainees at Guantanamo have not been afforded any means by which to establish their guilt or innocence. Quote
Crux Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 The detainees at Guantanamo have not been afforded any means by which to establish their guilt or innocence ...by due process in a court of law. Quote
ClimbingPanther Posted August 22, 2007 Posted August 22, 2007 The detainees at Guantanamo have not been afforded any means by which to establish their guilt or innocence. for crying out loud, they've always had the option of just admitting their guilt and getting the whole ordeal over with Quote
