lizard_brain Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 When I get to Mars I'm going to get a puppy. Â Bring fresh batteries for it. Quote

Chad_A Posted August 17, 2007 Posted August 17, 2007 I would avoid anything that uses cards (Olympus and Fuji) as I've been told repeatedly they're notorious for damage/data loss. Â Never had an incident with my Fuji F30 as far as data loss, but then again, that doesn't help since the LCD display just failed. Quote
EWolfe Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 Tvash: Â Sorry about your camera, but thanks for the tent! Quote
TREETOAD Posted August 18, 2007 Posted August 18, 2007 To test the battery just stick your tongue across the terminals To test the SD card just stick your tongue across the terminals To test the camera just stick your tongue across the terminals Quote

tvashtarkatena Posted August 19, 2007 Author Posted August 19, 2007 I just ordered a Canon Powershot SD800. I'll autopsy the dead SD200 just for kicks to see if it was something obvious. Quote
tvashtarkatena Posted August 19, 2007 Author Posted August 19, 2007 So I took the SD200 apart. Inside it's clean, silver shell is a Gordian knot of flexstrips. The on/off switch appeared to be undamaged, but as for the rest of it...I think it runs on magic. Quote
Gary_Yngve Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 How long have you had it? Anything happen before it broke? Wet? Moisture? Drop? Quote
tvashtarkatena Posted August 19, 2007 Author Posted August 19, 2007 Other than dropping it numerous times on rocks, dragging up several cliff faces while hauling the pack, stepping on it accidentally, wresting it from my dog's mouth, and exposing it to numerous rainstorms, it's been treated with tender loving care. Quote
Gary_Yngve Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 How long have you had it? Â I've had digicams have similar deaths after 2-3 years of similar abuse. Often without an obvious event directly preceding its death. Quote
tvashtarkatena Posted August 19, 2007 Author Posted August 19, 2007 About 2 years. It's probably a power supply component (a little more mass than other components, not surface mountable) that fails from impact on these things, I'd guess. Quote
olyclimber Posted August 19, 2007 Posted August 19, 2007 If the camera doesn't power up or allow you to take pictures or doesn't seem to function as it should it is probably broken. I recommend you either buy a new one or attempt to repair it. Â You can either buy a new camera using the internet or go to a brick and mortar store. Digital cameras are popular, look into those. Kat_Roslyn Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 So, I have a similar problem. A bear chewed my camera last year and I have some pictures on the card that I want to see. But I don't know anything about technology. It is a cannon digital camera, that now has teeth marks in it. That's all I know. Quote
tvashtarkatena Posted August 21, 2007 Author Posted August 21, 2007 Eject the little blue SD card and bring it to the next pub club. Quote
olyclimber Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 Alternatively you could buy an SD card reader. They are cheap. I also do have a camera that reads such things. Quote
olyclimber Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 Also I have imparted much valuable knowledge to Tvash in this thread. He should at this point be highly trained. Quote
Dechristo Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 It's always an important step in one's development to become Porter-trained. Quote
AlpineK Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 Porter has helped me with my fucked up computer, and thanks to him it's behaving itself....for now; who knows what it'll do next week. Quote
rob Posted August 21, 2007 Posted August 21, 2007 Alternately, has anybody tried one of those SD card readers? Quote
