cook Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 I'm glad I'm not drinking absinthe right now. I drank absinthe once and threw up for 24 hours. Â Now I am also drinking warm water. Quote
selkirk Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 Cold Coffee as well, but a nice chilled Limoncello sounds awfully nice at the moment! Is absinthe still illegal in the US? Quote
luwayo Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 Â "absinthe ducrois fils. triple rectification" Quote
bunglehead Posted August 3, 2005 Author Posted August 3, 2005 I've seen Absinthe in the liquor store down here in Orygun. It's 46 dollars a bottle, and I don't know if it has the ingredient that makes you want to hatchet your loved ones (i.e. wormwood), but it's there. Quote
deadbeatchrist Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 Absinthe is not legal to sell in the US. It is legal, however, to import. Though I have heard that customs will take it from you if they find it... kind of a slap on the wrist thing for bringing hallucenogens into the country. Quote
fenderfour Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 The issue with Absinthe is the wormwood that is used to make it. It is considered poisonous in the US. Most of the hallucinagenic effects from absinthe are largely anecdotal. Â http://www.feeverte.net/ Â You can get one of the cheapest brands at the Duty Free shop at the CA border. Quote
barjor Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 I am such a hard ass climber dude that I only drink Mt Dew Quote

thelawgoddess Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 well, i couldn't find any absinthe at nordstrom's so i got some "just moo!" instead. probably goes better with oreo's anyway. Quote
catbirdseat Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 (edited) The presumed active ingredient in wormwood's oils, alpha-thujone, has a similar molecular structure to menthol, a-pinene, eucalyptol, camphor and other monoterpenes. Formerly believed to have a THC (cannabinoid) structure-activity relationship and mechanism, a-thujone is now known to modulate only an entirely different receptor site, the GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) system. GABA moderates the firing of neural synapses; a-thujone mildly antagonizes such inhibition. Â Â More on thujone Edited August 3, 2005 by catbirdseat Quote
