mec Posted May 3, 2005 Posted May 3, 2005 I heard they added a romance interest to the story to make the movie sell better. I plan on watching it, but I hate how every movie has to have a love story in it... Quote
Bill_Simpkins Posted May 3, 2005 Posted May 3, 2005 Yeah, it was pretty good. Pretty funny too. I agree though, adding love interest to sell totally blows. It's a discrase to art. Quote
ChrisT Posted May 3, 2005 Posted May 3, 2005 not to hitchhike this thread or anything...but has anyone seen "Kung Fu Hustle". That's the movie I really want to see. Quote
J_Kirby Posted May 3, 2005 Posted May 3, 2005 We did a outdoor showing about three months ago in SE PDX. Its a good flick. Quote
klenke Posted May 3, 2005 Posted May 3, 2005 I'm seeing Kung Fu Hustle tonight. I'll report in tomorrow right here on this handy-dandy cc.com movie review thread. Quote
klenke Posted May 3, 2005 Posted May 3, 2005 We had a showdown scheduled? Golly darn it. I forgot to put it in my schedule book. Sorry, bub. Brass knuckles or did you have a more novel weapon in mind this time? Quote
klenke Posted May 3, 2005 Posted May 3, 2005 No no! I capitulate. I'll lick your muddy boots, I'll darn your dirty socks, I'll shave your hairy back. Anything. Spare me the agony of the ways of Olyshan Karoake Fu. Quote
klenke Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 Re: Kung Fu Hustle I liked it. The previews I'd seen made it look like a spoof comedy. But in reality it's more of a drama with comic undertones (like The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly was). There are spoof bits but mostly it has its own gags. The special effects were great (for the genre). With these kung fu movies, it seems each new one that comes out has to top the previous one in terms of action, stunts, and effects. In this regard, the movie succeeds, although the 1 on 50 fight scenes that are so typical of the genre showed me nothing fresh. The movie is subtitled but quite easy to follow, although at times--especially in the beginning--the plot was hard to fathom. This didn't detract from the end of the movie. I recommend it. Quote

I plan on watching it, but I hate how every movie has to have a love story in it... Â I didn't read the book, so I wouldn't know what they changed. But you have to admit that this is a great quote (paraphrased). "Love, we don't care about love. We want to be famous! Take his brain!" Quote
mec Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 the humor is great in the books, I'd definitely recommend reading the series. Quote
thelawgoddess Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 planning to see the movie tomorrow. the book will have to wait ... Quote
archenemy Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 planning to see the movie tomorrow. the book will have to wait ... Well, so long and thanks for all the fish. Uh, I mean otters. Quote
griz Posted May 5, 2005 Posted May 5, 2005 Ah...a fine geek check thread. Â Any of you dorks see the movie in a bathrobe? Quote
nolanr Posted May 6, 2005 Posted May 6, 2005 Loved "Kung Fu Hustle." I would say it was somewhat of a live action cartoon. It didn't always make sense, but that didn't really matter. One of the funnier parts was a quick little gag early on that firmly established it as an entirely different movie than "Shaolin Soccer." Quote
