Seattleites will vote on monorail's fate yet again It passed and yes there have been some issues but christ, can we complete a project around here? I wa sort of on the fence with the whole monorail project from the start, but it passed and we've already started work and I haven't seen anything really stand out as being a show stopper. Are we just going to throw away the last couple years of work and money? Quote

Beck Posted September 17, 2004 Posted September 17, 2004 Seattle voters may vote the monorail down, but it won't get everyone refunds on the car tab tax- in fact, the monorail agency may very well keep on collecting the tax for two years to pay off accumulated bills. Vote down the monorail, continue to pay for nothing. This really sucks. I support the monorail, let's just get the damn thing built already. People bitched in SF when the BART system was going in fourty years ago, and now they've got over a hundred miles of transit, I think Seattle has held off long enough. Quote

My employee and I were driving down I-5 to a job and saw some folks on an overpass waving Bush signs back a couple weeks ago. We both rolled down our windows and gave the Bush lovers the bird...they stoped waving at us Quote

I didn't even know that Martin Selig, fatcat developer extraordinaire and Monorail opponent, was a liberal. Just build the thing already. It would be an incredible waste of money not to and it's complementary to Sound Transit light rail. It would be super cool, fifteen years from now when I'm visiting Seattle after getting sick of it and moving the hell away, to be able to take a train from the airport to downtown... like you can in almost any other major city in the world. olyclimber Posted September 17, 2004 Posted September 17, 2004 The utterly moronic thing about this being on the ballot is that even if it passes, the "recall the monorail" measure is almost certainly going to be declared illegal and be thrown out later this year. Just putting it on the ballot is going to cost us $850,000.00 (read the Seattle Times today to see why)....and we will get nothing. It is just stupid no matter if you support the monorail or you don't. The "recall the monorail" people and the judges who refused to make a timely decision should be held accountable for this. If they would just wait till after the legal ruling, if it is declared legal, they could put the measure on the next ballot...but instead they are most likely going to throw away our money for absolutely nothing. And if the judges would have made a decision it either could be on the ballot legal...or it wouldn't be on there at all. Quote
