viktor Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 The Icicle is massively burning right now. I'd post a picture but all I see is smoke, lotsa smoke. Quote

viktor Posted July 16, 2004 Author Posted July 16, 2004 road closed at 8-mile campground, evacuating everyone beyond that. Apparently lightning caused near Ida Creek Quote
Chad_A Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 Damn, that's awful. What's the best way to keep current with the fire? Forest Service websites? Quote
matt_warfield Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 Any updates on fire status and Icicle Creek access? Quote
pzack Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 Any updates on fire status and Icicle Creek access? Just called the ranger Station. Icicle Creek Road is closed at the SnowLake Trailhhead. 500 acres burning currently. Quote
Distel32 Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 new boulders.......??? hope it gets under control Quote
slaphappy Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 New boulders? doubtful. Cleaner boulders? Quite possibly, although where it's burning right now there isn't much in the way of boulders. I'd dump a years worth of on it right now if it would extinguish the damn fire. Quote

slaphappy Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 Oh, I thought about it. It may be the end of me but I'd be willing... Quote
thrutch Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 slappy guess that means we aint going where were going? Quote
Jim Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 Just spoke to a friend in the FS over there. It's going to keep them busy - very dry. She strongly suggest alternative plans to the Icicle this weekend. Rats! That's what I was planning. Quote
slaphappy Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 No Thrutch, not right now. It's a bit hot anyhow. We will reschedule, fall will be a better time for that grunt. Let's just hope that damn fire doesn't jump the road or move too far east, that would really suck. Hopefully it won't burn til it snows. Every time one of these things starts it really bums me out. On a lighter note, maybe we can find another Pearly Gates! Quote
Dru Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 the poor goats they will be short of climber urine for weeks now! cold turkey Quote
iain Posted July 16, 2004 Posted July 16, 2004 The real question is where Bush's podium will be oriented for his next healthy forests speech. It will be a tough framing choice to get maximum billowing smoke in the background with haybales and rolled-up ranch shirt in foreground. Quote
