Greg_W Posted February 19, 2004 Posted February 19, 2004 How soon do things start to dry out up there? My only experience with Squamish climbing is well into summer. Thanks. Quote
Distel32 Posted February 19, 2004 Posted February 19, 2004 it doesn't totally dry out until summer. Hit or miss just depends on the weather, rainy season goes until mayish but you can climb all winter as long as you get 3 dry days before you go. Quote
layton Posted February 19, 2004 Posted February 19, 2004 my best trips have been in april and may Quote
thelawgoddess Posted February 20, 2004 Posted February 20, 2004 when climbing in squish in the spring bring your skis. when it rains, it's a short drive up to whistler to frolic in pow. i've had great long weekends doing both. Quote
scott_harpell Posted February 20, 2004 Posted February 20, 2004 I climb there every couple of weekends. If you want some adventure, the apron is great in the winter. Being on diedre and being the only person on the apron is amazing! Let me know if yo uare headed this way. Quote
slothrop Posted February 21, 2004 Posted February 21, 2004 Had a great couple days there in April one year. No lines at the Smoke Bluffs, even. Quote
Dru Posted February 21, 2004 Posted February 21, 2004 there is no squamish there is no spring it is crowded and rains heavily every day of the year the mosquitoes carry dengue fever and trichinosis the locals will beat you up and burn your tent and give you the clap the beer has too much flavour and alcohol for Americans to stomach all in all better to stay home Quote
Stemalot Posted February 21, 2004 Posted February 21, 2004 climb fast and climb high, then the local loggers can't catch you. Quote
thelawgoddess Posted February 21, 2004 Posted February 21, 2004 i don't know. i was out there during the big logger festival last summer and those dudes are pretty friggin' fast! Quote
AlpineK Posted February 21, 2004 Posted February 21, 2004 I would agree that the beer up there, in the brew pub, sucks. If Squish was in America the Brew Pub would be out of business. Quote
thelawgoddess Posted February 21, 2004 Posted February 21, 2004 i also agree. the beer at crystal mountain is better! Quote
Dru Posted February 21, 2004 Posted February 21, 2004 I would agree that the beer up there, in the brew pub, sucks. If Squish was in America the Brew Pub would be out of business. its going out of business anyways is what i heard.... Quote
chucK Posted February 21, 2004 Posted February 21, 2004 I would agree that the beer up there, in the brew pub, sucks. If Squish was in America the Brew Pub would be out of business. How can you say that? Pyramid seems to be thriving? I think maybe if Squish was in the US, then there would be better beer, and FOOD there. Also, it'd probably cost a whole bunch of money to camp there and climbers would probably be getting hassled by the man 24-7. Plus, there would definitely be no climbing in the Smoke Bluffs. Quote
Stemalot Posted February 23, 2004 Posted February 23, 2004 i don't know. i was out there during the big logger festival last summer and those dudes are pretty friggin' fast! yeah...logger are strong...well, try placing less pro then! Quote
Stemalot Posted February 23, 2004 Posted February 23, 2004 Squishy is dry for the most part on this Sunday. Need about two to three days of good weather for a worthy weekend trip around this time of the year. However, the Smoke Bluffs drys really fast and great for a one day trip for locals. Quote
Dru Posted February 23, 2004 Posted February 23, 2004 squamish OH yeah it was really wet and cold and miserable. and the whole town has gone "dry" so there is no beer. and the weed got some sort of fungal blight. and whistler snow all melted. in other words it sucks and you should stay home cause the trip aint worth it Quote
thelawgoddess Posted February 23, 2004 Posted February 23, 2004 the more you tell me not to come ... the more you know i'll be there. see you in the spring, dru! Quote
bird Posted February 24, 2004 Posted February 24, 2004 It was spectacular on Saturday! The only problem... we couldn't find a legitimate place to camp. The two places we usually stay were closed for the winter. Any advice for winter camping? Quote
Dru Posted February 24, 2004 Posted February 24, 2004 drive up a gravel road until surrounded by bushes. pitch tent Quote
snoboy Posted February 24, 2004 Posted February 24, 2004 It was spectacular on Saturday! The only problem... we couldn't find a legitimate place to camp. The two places we usually stay were closed for the winter. Any advice for winter camping? Camp at the Chief campground. You have to walk in from the highway, and carry out your own garbage, but it's free in the winter. Quote

It is probably only ten or fifteen minutes from squamish, and the setting is beautiful. I can't remember the name, but it is a provincial park. Quote
