Rodchester Posted February 13, 2004 Posted February 13, 2004 Anyone been up in the Ingals / Stuart area via Ingals Pass by Teanaway River road? With the warm weather, how far can one drive into the trailhead? Anyone with info? Quote
robertm Posted February 13, 2004 Posted February 13, 2004 they plow to 29 pines... still about 10 miles from the TH unless you can bribe the 'bilers with brew or smokes. Quote
blue_tuberosa Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 It's melted all the way to the trailhead. Quote
glacier Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 Sweet. 2wd friendly, or will I have to succumb to travelling in an SUV? Quote
blue_tuberosa Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 It should be fine in a 2wd... it's a pretty easy road. It may have even been graded recently... I know that they just graded the road up to Cathedral/Hyas in the last few weeks and it made a HUGE difference. They may have taken care of the Teanaway too. Even if they didn't, it should be fine in a 2wd... just bumpy. Quote
hasbeen Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 I was just there on Monday. The road is in fantastic shape. It's not even very bumpy. I was in a Trooper but you should have no trouble going 30 - 35 mph the whole way in any vehicle. Quote
robertjoy Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 I plan to climb Ingalls E.ridge next weekend: what can you tell me about snow? Should we take crampons and ice axe to ascend the gully up to the e.ridge notch? Quote
Paul_K Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 I was up there 6/12. Pretty much solid snow from the lake all the way up. Definitely needed an ice axe, and we had to chop some steps in the gully where the snow was shaded. We climbed to the top of the snow in the gully and then directly up the gully. I talking to other people it seemed the correct route is to look at the left side of the gully where it narrows and climb from there to the notch. Quote
hasbeen Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 I scrambled up the S. Ridge so I wasn't on the snow that gives access to the E. Ridge. However, I don't think you will need an axe or crampons. I got to the snow leading up to the S. Ridge at approximately 11:15 a.m. and I was in approach shoes with two treking poles. The snow was quite soft by that hour (but not so soft that I was postholing) and going up the slopes was quite secure. Coming down things were a little softer and it was no problem at all without an axe or boots, for that matter. I can only assume that the snow up to the E. Ridge is similar. If you head up significantly earlier, it may be a bit firmer. Quote
John Frieh Posted October 21, 2004 Posted October 21, 2004 Bump. Anybody know on average how late in the season this stays open? Road conditions currently? Quote
Mike Posted October 24, 2004 Posted October 24, 2004 I was in the Icicle today up toward Grindstone (Chatter Creek). The snow doesn't really start until about 4000', so you still have a pretty good shot at driving all the way to the end of Teanaway River Rd - might have to drive through a couple of new inches of snow. But it won't be long until it's closed. Quote
Fairweather Posted October 24, 2004 Posted October 24, 2004 We miss you here Rodchester! If the afterlife has internet access....Well, I just wanted you to know. Respectfully, Fairweather Quote
John Frieh Posted December 14, 2004 Posted December 14, 2004 Bump. Any updates? Also: does anyone know where the road gets closed at "full winter conditions"? I heard 8 miles from the TH from someone... truth? Quote
Alex Posted December 14, 2004 Posted December 14, 2004 Also: does anyone know where the road gets closed at "full winter conditions"? I heard 8 miles from the TH from someone... truth? Yes, the road is plowed to the branch uphill towards Esmerelda Basin, by the horse camp. This is a very popular snowmobiling area, and thats where all the sleds unload... Quote
John Frieh Posted December 14, 2004 Posted December 14, 2004 Thanks Alex! Isn't the horse camp approximately 8 miles from the TH? I can't find a map... Quote
Alex Posted December 14, 2004 Posted December 14, 2004 I think its closer to the trailhead than that actually. I think its shown on USGS quad, but not greentrails or gazetteer Quote
philfort Posted December 14, 2004 Posted December 14, 2004 (edited) I snowmobiled in there once before. I think it was 10 miles from the winter closure to the Ingalls TH. That place is swarming with machines in the winter. 29 pines: http://www.parks.wa.gov/winter/parks/motorparks.asp?Park=108 Edited December 14, 2004 by philfort Quote
Jopa Posted March 4, 2005 Posted March 4, 2005 Has anyone been up the road lately? Can you get all the way to the trailhead? Quote
Alex Posted March 7, 2005 Posted March 7, 2005 i have not been in recently so this is just conjecture, but its a snomo trail in the winter and might take a bit of time to melt out. Quote
kenp Posted March 12, 2005 Posted March 12, 2005 anyone going up to Ingalls/Stuart this weekend? Quote
magellan Posted April 28, 2005 Posted April 28, 2005 Grrrr! Now rain in the forecast this saturday. Anyone know how far we can drive up teanaway? Quote
